Sermanni’s right, how can we expect to keep pace with the boom in women’s football when our top league has players on a six month contract at below minimum wage. We are stagnating here in the ALW and hoping clubs overseas will pick up our young players to provide the next generation of Matildas.

Johnson has definitely brought the federations into the decision making and, as you point out, the growth of the game which starts at grassroots level is vital to the future of the game.

I think you were referring to the removal of the state federations and that is what is easier said than done.

I get what you’re saying and JJ has left football in a much better place than it was 5 years ago but , as he said when he arrived ‘football in Australia has many challenges’. He has overcome some of those challenges and, hopefully, whoever takes over will share his vision. 🤞

No and that’s why I said that I don’t know how good she would be but FA have ridden on the back of the Matildas popularity to great benefit so, as I said it would be beneficial to ALL of football to have a female in the decision making.

JJ would be a hard act to follow and I don’t know how good Heather Garriock would be but with a focus very much on women’s football it would be beneficial to have her in a top position. There is so much potential for the women’s game.

I too am disappointed that he has gone but he has spent 5 years trying to drag football into the 21st century and eventually he seems to have decided to move on for the sake of his own career and I for one don’t blame him.

I am watching this tournament on YouTube and it’s a great format. It is something that could be done here , albeit on a smaller scale, and it’s ideal for television. It is being shown by DAZN and is something that could interest them when they take over Foxtel and could be shown on Kayo.

In some ways you are right that he couldn’t move as fast as he wanted and has found a place where he can implement his vision. Possibly he was constrained by the system and also the lack of financial support especially from government. Here in Australia we often can’t see the wood for the trees...

I would say that it’s closely linked to the Canadian Soccer Association (which is similar to Football Australia ) and is responsible for the commercialisation of football in Canada. I think it aligns perfectly with what he has achieved here .He has set football up for the future although there are probably brick walls that he couldn’t break down but overall he has done a great job here. Canada are just starting to expand their soccer world and I am sure he will do for them...
