Incredibly some are still holding to that narrative in the comments!Sorry grazor, should have added... good read....
Its not gonna do anything to stop the same old tired "but NPL clubs fleece mum and dad to pay their senior players" that the same old protectionists use as make believe hurdle to pro/rel...
Thanks! Please share it widely and comment to boost its signal. We need this info to trickle up to those in charge so they can do something about itThat is an epic article mate. I'm glad someone is doing the digging to get some answers![]()
Very interesting to read Mark Stupple's comments, Grazor.
Fantastic read!
Well written too (with one small typo) and terrific research conducted!
Thanks for posting the article here, mate!
Not surprising mate... You'll find that many of the same ilk are the ones who are adamant a national second division or promotion and relegation will NEVER be viable in Australia as there isn't enough "professionalism" or money outside of the Aleague....Incredibly some are still holding to that narrative in the comments!
Yep a good article mate, its such a hard thing to tackle given the costs and demands associated with elite football/sport.
Unfortunately the infrastructure and investment isnt enough to cover all areas of the country.
For example we only have 11 pro teams meanwhile there is 100 odd semi pro teams, meanwhile in Europe say in England there is 92 pro teams which means more opportunities to develop players at the elite level and I think this makes a big difference.
In an ideal world we would have more pro teams that could take up the costs in developing the players, but unfortunately the clubs are usually are the first to blame especially at semi pro level and thats where the energy is mostly spent but the focus instead should be how the sport can get more investment at all levels whether it be with more professional clubs to more investment from govt. and corporations.
For example, The NRL/AFL have huge TV deals, what can football leverage from? The domestic transfer system if brought in is a good start but we need more.
Overall to run elite football is not a cheap exercise but unless there is a way that can cover these costs it will be a hard thing to solve sadly.
It would certainly help if the 11 (self appointed) pro clubs in this country did their bit to help rather than hinder and poach from those below them.. You know, fund a full season National Youth league, have all age academies for both men and women (for no fees) ....well done again Grazor, one wonders why we don't see any similar articles and reports publicised by our own Governance more regularly.
Thats the catch22 they are MIA imo but for when there needs a 2/3/10yr report done can NSD/NST come to be ! grrrrr......
Barca I highlighted what stood out to me, it no matter the divide between here and UK for we do have a pie to mould and work with but we keep having resistance and oh the costs......
Why are not the 100 odd semi Pro NPL's getting more support from our FA - more so pushing the Feds who in turn led to believe are another problem at hand holding back the game - the NPL Clubs and below need more resource to cover the TD's/more coachs with some pay for as mentioned people/more so the young gen parents don't put their hand enough like before.
NPL and below is the roots of our game not the APL Pro 11 clubs to take up costs in developing whilst they are stand alone.
We keep going on about Gov funding whilst the AFL/NRL keep gaining it, GA during the WWC was saying as such in the media right in front of Albo's face, then some players were doing the same.
Seems to fall on deaf ears.
JJ needs put our Govs on notice instead of keeping quiet, put out in the press Gov is not listenning - make some noise and lets see IF Gov budges considering swimming etc gets their piece of the pie.
Graz some TD's/young coachs I have come to know north parts of Sydney is saying its all getting too hard.
They have studies/they are pushed by clubs to be here there, for pittance, this is the crux I expect around the country.
Does seem to be correlated and surprsingly difficult to convince people that "just know" npl clubs qre price gouging juniors to pay for seniorsNot surprising mate... Japans strategy to have 100 pro teams is a great one. We also need to promote social football. We have 130k at the moment out of 1.6 mil participants who play social football. This number needs to increase 20 fold. It would fund state bodies, provide a small revenue stream and volunteer pool for clubs, stabalize the lower parts of the pyramid by producing a community associated with every club and create a football cultureYep a good article mate, its such a hard thing to tackle given the costs and demands associated with elite football/sport.

Yeah i suspect we will follow usa as the commitments of part time coaches are unsustainable. We probably end up with full time coaches and tech directors and fees north of 6k per kid.well done again Grazor, one wonders why we don't see any similar articles and reports publicised by our own Governance more regularly.

Yes if they had all underage teams and a nyl we would at least have the youth development infrastructure we had in the nsl era.It would certainly help if the 11 (self appointed) pro clubs in this country did their bit to help rather than hinder and poach from those below them.. You know, fund a full season National Youth league, have all age academies for both men and women (for no fees) ....
This ! It’s knock off effects have been woeful yet those not in know or one sided just don’t get how much this 1 league forget about the rest set us back and in turn incurred the mess and costs were going through.Yes if they had all underage teams and a nyl we would at least have the youth development infrastructure we had in the nsl era.
Starting the a league where clubs were allegedly the only clubs in the world with no underage teams was one of the silliest decisions in our history
Absolutely it was and I suspect that's why the cheer squad for all things Aleague "bites back" at any criticism of the lack of progress in 20 years... If the APL can't afford to "do" youth development then the NPL clubs must be ripping off their juniors in some way, there is no other logical explanation... its all so discouraging.Yes if they had all underage teams and a nyl we would at least have the youth development infrastructure we had in the nsl era.
