I stil haven't quite got my head around all the young players playing AL.

Having said this, a number of AL coaches are preferring to play the young whiz kids than senior Aussies over the age of 26. Amini has just parted with Perth G. Neville and King are on the bench. I've mentioned Jurman before getting splinters on the pine too..

The experienced players might not be as technically adept, but their positioning from experience to organise the team shape should be invaluable.

I thought Paull was an import in his 30s, but was delighted to see the large CCM CB is only about 21!

I wonder whether this is because the funding has been cut. Hence, get the youth on the pitch and then at season's end try and sell them overseas to make up for the funding shortfall. Having said that, I was worried that playing so many youngsters would lead to a considerable drop in quality as it did about 8 years ago but so far (PG & BR aside) the younger players have held their own. It also explains why Auckland have shot to the top as they have a more experienced playing list without it being too old.

Does Ariath Piol have NT potential? Saw the media hyping him as a bigger Nestory. I've only really seen highlights. How good could he be?

haha they meant literally bigger as in bigger body frame and it became the clickbait title

he really catches the eye to be honest. I wouldn't rule him out. 2 years older than nestor, born 2004

I realise that but read it as a bigger framed Nestory.

If Mitch Duke can make it, so can Piol. He would be one of the taller & heavier strikers that the NT would have.

What is happening is the younger Aus players are improving the league technically - by some margin.

However, with so much less experience than the 26 yo old Aussies and older, who are in short supply and disappearing, they are making more individual and collective team mistakes in defence. Hence, more chances are being created on goal.

I'm really biased about this, and probably have a different take on the AL and Aussie football in general.

I was bombarded 16 - 10 years ago with an analysis from foreign football luminaries stating what is wrong with Australian football - and - with a blueprint in how to fix it. There was a great deal of resistance from many Aus coaches involved who didn't want to change.

Fast forward to 2024/5, and all those types of players we didn't have, seem to be arriving en masse. Exemplified in Arzani, Irankunda, Circati, Piscopo, Valadon, Segecic, Milanovic, Brook, Talbot, Teague, Jelacic, Matthews, Natta, Courtney - P, Jake Hollman, Youlley, the Bos brothers, Villupillay, and probably Walatee and a lot more I barely know - yet.

Now that Popa is playing more AL players in the Socceroos, the players who might be being sold on to Europe, as you suggest to stack club coffers, which Baan and Berger wanted to occur, are not developing as fast as they might have been in the AL - before they left. This is particularly the case with many of the players who have gone to play in Scotland when we see them play for the Socceroos.

It is very exciting!

Will keep looking out for him.

I have only just realised he is an Aussie. Thought he was an older import.

it is exciting, though will take a while to trickle up to the socceroos. Even the next qualifying campaign will see just the vanguard of these players.
