Apparently had a spectacular last minute win against england

I just happened to tune in for the last 10 minutes, good to the Wallabies not suck. I haven't been following union since Jonah Lomu finished up. Only started to look at it again when I heard there was a team in Melbourne about to fold lol. "Sporting capital" my arse, it's just AFL, cricket, horse racing, and anyone that sells their soul to the betting industry. The media never give anything else any air time, even the Storm, who having been kicking butt for years!

Lived in melbourne
Genuinely wanted to like afl....but i just cant

I feel they have punched below their weight in socceroo production too

Not that my state can talk (qld)

Really enjoyed that. Watched most of it on train.

I've watched rugby my whole life but was brought up with league. Still, I don't get the exact ruck rules.

The refs are inconsistent hypocrites. England will be tackled in a dire situation and our tackler will trap him yet we get penalised for handling in ruck. England tackle our player and catch him a bit like an AFL 'ball' tackle and England receive the penalty. At neither time had a ruck been formed so it can't be hands in the ruck.

Also the refs rush Australia to use to ball from the ruck and blow penalties very quickly while opponents seem to be allowed to just sit there and take their time.

It's like watching kids play gridiron against mascots:

We had a kid on our rugby league team who'd just go through everyone.

Jonah Lomu rugby on play station is the all time great. Tricky for programming a rugby game is how to determine when the software should have forward passes or knock ons? This game just forwent it which made for a more enjoyable dynamic game. A friend and I would have epic battles between Zimbabwe and Taiwan.

Yer I haven’t bothered with rugby since jones eales etc retired.
We’ve been in a heap since.
The local comp used to be massive as well it’s just dead disappeared.
Anyway good they won it sure is rare nowadays

I stopped bothering with union soon after the John Eales era too - although I did stick with Gregan. Loved that John Eales Japanese train ad.

Union at the national level started heading down when they brought over Wendell Sailor and others from league to union. The 'local' players who had worked their union butts off for years to get to the highest level were ignored in favour of the superstar league type bring ins.

Disconnect the national from the grassroots in a ball sport and what happens?

And the whole Super Rugby comp failed in the end And screwed up the local comp for all the ARU cared about was the top.
Sound familiar :)
Ch2 Saturday arvo used have live arvo games Randwick Gordon Eastwood etc all disappeared.
Papworth a staunch Eastwood guy was coaching there trying to help and got on radio always with the pigeon Alan Jones quoting facts figures how the game has gone backwards.
Now we know who ended up at AL eh, John ONeill - a football person haha

Yer I hung in Gregan days, it was the last of decent wallaby times.
