I agree. He’s only 20, but in professional sport time is not on your side. There’s no waiting until you’re 30 to finish uni and land your first job.

On the other hand, I work in professional sport (boxing) and can tell you there are plenty who love the idea of being a professional athlete more than actually being one.

At the elite level, professional footballers are killers. It’s an aggressive industry and not everyone is built for it.

In the past, too many young Aussies have seen signing with a big/European club as the goal rather than step one in their journey. And there are plenty of dodgy agents willing to make a deal happen; very few care about setting these kids up to succeed once they get there. In that sense, football and boxing are the same game.

For me, Peupion’s willingness to linger in the reserves suggests a mentality that isn’t suited to elite sport. Rather than pushing for first team football against men, he has been content being a Brighton player and dominating in an U21 competition.

Ryan Teague’s path has been a little different. Although farmed out by Famalicao, he was at least playing senior football in the second division. And when it was clear that first team opportunities at Famalicao were limited, he didn’t waste vital years and jumped ship to Victory.

He’s now on the radar of at least two national teams (if you believe the China rumours).

A lot of people don’t want to admit it, but the A-League is now a viable alternative to Europe for many. Teague wouldn’t be earning rave reviews if he was slugging it out in Norway or League Two.

It may be an option Okon will need to explore if he hasn’t broken into Benfica’s matchday squad by next season. He’s way too talented to be making the same decision at 24 or 25.
Yep needs to be playing senior football. I think he's good enough for a second tier Euro league though. Somewhere like Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland and Denmark could be good destinations.

Absolutely agree. From what I’ve seen, definitely good enough for any of those leagues. Very unique player for an Aussie.

As VPNs are blocked on AFC YouTube I can't even test if this works in Australia. Does the stream play? Really hoping someone turns off the switch at the end of this tournament for the qualifiers.

Hearing our U20s have reached the final of the Asian Champs. I understand this is a big deal as they have never played for this trophy.

Great post. So you mean to tell me Genreau may just be in it for the lifestyle? I mean, let's not fault the lad, a well paid profession that keeps you healthy and he's just become a father so who wouldn't want that? t is interesting to note that some players certainly seem to be content with going through the motions. I thought this was for certain goalkeepers happy to be more in a support role than actually playing. Sven Ulreich is one where it just didn't make sense to be reserve at Bayern when he could've played elsewhere.

I guess I'd be a bit more comfortable with the names listed above if the info weren't so bloody scarce. It does defy belief however when they appear very good as players and you watch their youth side or full team, say, Teague's and you think 'why on earth doesn't he get a run, these guys are poor'.

Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark at that young age are fine. German Liga 3 is great too with 20 clubs. League 1 at the young age is a great way to harden up.

welcome to this part of the forum!
Shame about afghanistan being rained out yesterday.

Yep. Kick off in 90min. 10:30pm AEST. Stream starts 15in before on Youtube.

Can you download the 10 Play app and use a VPN to say you're in Australia? @JS96 is o/s and probably knows the best way to watch it.
Might depend on your App store as 10 might be limited to Aus location only. 10 Play as a website will work in a browser with a VPN. Rarely does it detect a VPN and then just switching should make it work. One issue with this is the VPN slows you down and 10, also 9, doesn't have the server capacity so it can lag. Game not on Paramount but it's comparatively fine.

+1 this. But be aware that usually they won't have commentary.
Is that a bad thing? :D I don't mind the Australian on 10. Not even Google can help me but I've heard him plenty of times. He does Perth games regularly. Theo? Teo? Pallezari?

agosti gets his first start

pretty strange xi to be honest. He normally plays a narrow 4-2-2 but we have 4 wide players so I'm not really sure how it fits together

Morgan uses a 4-1-3-2 so if he stays true to that drop Bennie back next to Badolato? I'm surprised at the XI actually, it doesn't look like our best.
