I don't think it has a relevance to Anzac Day. When I lived in the territory and we went out to Aboriginal sites and were welcomed that's fine. There's a direct relevance.

When my wife goes to a conference in Sydney where they start with a welcome to country and then the next 6 speakers that get up acknowledge the traditional owners it gets a bit tiresome.

In my opinion it's overdone and needs to be limited. It's already become tokenistic. Loads of people hate it, others just roll their eyes and others again just put up with it.

But it shouldn't have had been performed at such a ceremony. If no one stands up to it then such things will be forced to be accepted by the public. Reminds me of the whole jibby jabby fiasco. Shut up, get jabbed and wear your mask: if not your a RWNJ cooker.

Given this forum is where I know some hard right conservatives frequent, I'll spell out a campaign from a leftist political activist for the fed election.

* Union movement - the LNP and conservatives number one nemesis outside parliament. There are 1.8 million in the Aus Council Of Trade Unions and we are well organised. There has been a Don't Risk Dutton national campaign. Hopefully, you've seen the T shirts and signs.

In Tas the union movement is focused on the marginal Fed electorate of Lyons. The broader movement, plus the Retired Unionist Network has doorknocked in the towns of Brighton, Bridgewater, New Norfolk, Old Beach, Midway Point and Sorell.
The format is:
1. Intro - semi-retired teacher from Aus Educ Union and Retired Unionists - National and State.

2. Ask the voter to shed light on important issues for them for the election - most pressing are cost of living, access to health services, housing and sometimes Trump is mentioned.

3. Conclude by raising Dutton wanting to sack 41 000 public servants, stop workers working from home (have met many doorknocking), his nuclear power notion, reinstatement of cashless card, bring up Robodebt - Labor's emergency health centres are popular, also raise Labor legislation for right to switch off at home for workers, and wage theft prosecution laws enacted, Labor education increase to public schools.
Would like to bring up salmon farming, Native Forest Logging and climate change, but there usually isn't enough time.
Try to get an assurance from voter to put Dutton manifesting in local candidate, Susie Bower, last on ballot paper. If they want we provide car stickers or corflutes on property, and, a photo of the voter signing a pledge to put Dutton last.

Some right wingers who post on another forum, claim Retired Unionists are a joke! As part of a national movement, we in the broader union movement have had conversations with 6 million voters Auswide. Moreover, experienced doorknockers mentor inexperienced doorknockers.

The ACTU/Unions' Tas is also on pre-poll booths, letterboxing and wobbleboarding regularly, to augment the doorknocking.

What we are finding in the satellite Hobart suburbs ( Lyons and Franklin) and country towns in Lyons, is voters are predisposed to taking about Labor and Liberal, and Independents. The Greens, popular in inner city Hobart, have no profile whatsoever in the outer suburbs.

I feel like the union movement is decimating Dutton and the LNP. Labor and the Greens are the beneficiaries of the work the union movement is doing. We are concerned about many Teals and Holmes a Court being anti- worker, particularly Haines and Steggall. Pocock is the best Independent in Fed Parl.

A few members have made scorecards, surveying candidates where they stand on climate issues. After being returned by candidates we had a media event to publicise the results.

Many TCC members are full on campaigning for anti- salmon candidate, Peter George. They've been wobbleboarding, door knocking, letterboxing. Climate 200 is backing Peter G.

TCC have members letter boxing the scorecard to publicise climate when voters vote.

TCC is an effective pressure group, but we are too much an online group. Many members write submissions and letters to papers, but IMO we don't meet enough in person. Monthly meetings are held via Zoom. We just don't rabble rouse enough on the ground like the union movement, or the Bob Brown Foundation.
 
A huge local issue arising in Tas electorates Franklin and Lyons is salmon farming.

The industry has had carte blanche to grow exponentially, with open slather salmon farming supported by both Tas Lib and Labor state governments. There is a great deal of fish sewage polluting sea areas, and death from overcrowded salmon pens. There are about 1100 working in the industry, but the popular suggestion is to move salmon farming on land, like one in Deloraine.

There was a demonstration of over 6000 yesterday on Parliament Lawns protesting against salmon farming. I think Albo has made a mistake pledging support and changing the EP laws to support salmon farmers.

Don't worry .... we are one disastrous weather event away from everyone finally realising we have a drastic problem ..... I wish I could believe that, but the return of that disgusting man to the presidency proves that people are easily led.

But the problem is actually so much worse.

We have a 3 pronged problem, not just 1.

Climate Change
Pollution (Water, Air, Noise, etc)
Destruction of Biodiversity
