General 2024/5 A League Men's thread

Key phrase
"The relaunch of the Brisbane Roar Academy"
pretty darn important. If we have academies and a nyl from day on of the a league we avoid 20 years of weaker youth development

how many teams lack an academy?
Auckland will have one next season or the season after depending on the how soon they can set it up, but overall i think every A-league said has a academy. Wellingtons one has produce a lot of good players.

Didn’t they cut off their academy a few years ago?

Assuming this is for next year? I don’t know why they binned it in the first place when aleague are moving towards having academy sides.
maybe keeper66 or others from up north more in the know can advise But I think alot was to do with the whole Fed system shakeup the last few years has really screwed things up politically etcetc......

Is it just me or is this the first season in a long time where there are not really any stand-out coaches.
Not saying they are all bad (although a couple are), just that there doesn't seem to be any that are head and shoulders above the rest. Example, last season Montgomery was clearly performing a step above the rest.
This season, Corica obviously has had the best results, but also had the benefit of building a squad from scratch so didn't have to deal with the baggage of an inherited squad. Next few seasons might be a challenge, especially with the salary cap changes. That squad will almost definitely require a bit of cost cutting.
If I had to name someone, it might be Aloisi, but even then he'd be on par with Staj.
What does everyone else reckon?

Yep there is too much politics unfortunately in football and sport in general.

Clubs hemorrhaging money, asking for rich outsiders to buy, league run by faceless men who never talk to anyone

Interesting parallels
why do you think during the opening Vegas round the SL clubs got a game :)
They have been at this for sometime for a bail out.
I can only name a couple of clubs nowadays due to the ol challenges of the past and when the odd top UK league players coming over here to play.
Always found it weird Wigan were also strong at league way back then and Hull.
Anyway who cares hope it bellies up haha

Football here and rugby league in the UK oddly enough have similar parallels so it’s an interesting development.

Clubs, and plenty of them, worldwide, lose money, year over year. The owners always pony up, as it is a labour of love to them.

Sorry, can't help here, I don't know if anyone can understand how Roar operate. Though given that they are always short on funds, I can only assume they must have gotten a directive from a higher authority to reinstate their academy program.

Assistant coach Airton Andrioli is apparently favourite to take over at adelaide

Is there a reason Brisbane Roar dont just play at Perry Park regardless of any redevelopment work?

Set up some temporary stands on the broadcast side, and style the venue in Brisbane Roar branding and they are away.

What is the reason behind them not playing there already?

WU and Perth in recent times have both had temporary stands at their home venues.

party because of how much crowds drop due to transit issues I believe

Also I was surprised at how expensive temporary stands can be (don't have a figure, maybe someone else does)

What do you mean by transit issues? How people get to the ground?
Bowen Hills station is a few minutes walk away, and every suburban line in Brisbane goes through that station.
If that causes transit issues, then no stadium anywhere is going to satisfy the football public in Brisbane.

heard people complain that it was much harder to get to perry park than suncorp but as you imply that could just be whinging

having said that a lot of brisbane has poor access to trains compared to busses. The bus system was a lot better than the train system when I used to live there 15 years ago
