Australian politics.

Ah thanks. Somewhere between vaccine and Cevapi I forgot how to read.

Any thoughts on Susssan Ley being tipped as a possible leader of the opposition?
Just weird to think an opposition leader/prime minister could potentially be sat in my old stomping grounds tbh.

Would be the first 'rural' Opposition leader since Fraser (by my research) wouldn't it (not counting Deputies)?

ABC officially saying Bandt has lost his seat with their projection models. What on earth were some candidates thinking celebrating on election night when they were referring to some other model?
NGL it doesn't really matter overall. Half them would have been able to diddly fuck all thanks to the Labor majority.

This shows that Labor is a real chance at the state elections if they get cracking on their mandate.

sort of a no brainier at the moment... VIC Libs are even more of a shitshow then they are federally.

Lol. They had to make an exemption for parliamentary status for the Libs in WA because they didn't meet the required number of members. They had 2 seats prior to the most recent election.

A slight comeback though, they now have 7.

Not official for Bandt apparently as Faruqi says there are still more votes to be counted. That's rich, even for her.
None of them are official until the AEC declare the seat and at the time of writing they have declared none. It's pretty obvious how most of them will go though.

Dec and zimbos I can only talk on my perspective you guys seem like nice people I'm sorry if I spoke out of line it's why I try not to talk politics
You have not spoken out of line, mate.

It reminded me what a sensitive topic this discussion can be, particularly with you having a Jewish wife.

I've also been fascinated by your perspective, and others on here, about the Greens. I tend to be in political echo chambers, apart from when I doorknock , and leaflet. Many of my Green activist pals, are holier than thou.

Most of the Green MPs and political staffers, are quite dogmatic they are right. I think Green rank and file need to question the strategy of their MPs and strategists - mainly focusing on the Labor Party as the enemy. I'm elucidating what you and others have raised on here in Tas Climate Collective, national and Hobart Retired Unionist Networks, plus Educators For Peace.

The Greens have had a shocking election result. To hear views proffered from you, and others ( not Lupi and John Smith) on here, has been quite educational. I've valued your input.

Boomers - overwhelmingly conservative?
Not wholly true, some I know are still left wing.
Many boomers however, who were radical lefties when young are not quite that way inclined now.
Particularly after seeing what a complete balls up of government labor has made, in both Australia and Britain (and the democrats in the US)
I'm shocked, because I campaign with a lot of Baby Bs in progressive political causes - but overall our voting is decidedly conservative. We are great at boozing, but are appalling voters!

The over 65s in this election had about 65% two party preferred who voted LNP, but I can't remember accurately.

45 - 65 yo - 51% two party preferred voted LNP.

35 -44 yo - 57% voted Labor voted two party preferred!

18- 34 yo - 64% voted Labor two party preferred!

From a geriatric leftist political activist thanks to all those in the age groups under 45 who repudiated the LNP - and - Murdoch, plus the Institute Of Public Affairs and Rinehart!

Next time I laugh when I see a Millennial looking at their phone and with headphones on walking down the street, or young mothers looking at their phones whilst ignoring their toddlers and babies in prams , or too terrified to answer phone calls from real people, or sitting in groups in coffee shops all looking at phones, or pubs in groups all looking at phones, or in political meetings sneaking a look at phones under the table, I have a newfound respect for you.

You guys know how to vote! You've done the nation proud! I love Millennials for decimating the bad guys!

Sky attack dogs Credlin and Bolt are pissing into the wind, as is their boss, Murdoch.

There are many possible reasons for this and this has been a strategy employed in the US in the past, for example the Republicans threw the Obama elections.

One scenario is economic timing and certain situations where they would want the opposition party to carry the can for, such that they can come back stronger at the next election.

The other is, the leadership of the major parties in all the vassal states of the USA (Australia being one) work with each other to ensure the established order maintains stability.
I'm really enjoying this, Loops.

I just can't get enough of conservatives pontificating on where they went wrong.

Where is John Smith when you need him? He and Loops, plus other Anarchy right wing nutters, were so happy when Trump won.

I might have to reinstate a few Anarchist right wing nut jobs' accounts from Ignore, if the likes of Vo2 Max and other Anarchists are advancing a few theories on why they lost.

The LNP are great at imploding when they lose! I don't want to waste money subscribing to The Australian and other Murdoch tabloids though to gloat.

Once again we are ecstatic in the union movement. Dutton intended to wipe us out.

The massive Don't Risk Dutton campaign was Australiawide, with the Aus Council Of Trade Unions' DRD campaign focusing on marginal seats.

The media has reported very little on this phenomenon. Do they know about it and aren't reporting it, because they don't like good news stories about the union movement? Or do they just not know?

Also, like he did in his last victory speech, Albo paid homage to the ' mighty union movement'. The quiet achievers in decimating Dutton - and mainly female.

Reminds me I have to renew my membership. They did well.
