I would agree with that, the things I have seen over the past few weeks suggest that the Trump comparison was a big factor in the decimation of the LNP. I haven't gone back to look at the exact chronology, but my recollection is that the opinion polls showing the LNP decline, from an initial position of leading the polls, started roughly around the time that Trump started ramping up his extreme actions.
