A-league attendances 24/25

I was there in that 60K. AMAZING!!!!
Me too. What was funny that day is that everytime the RBB lit a flare Sydney scored another one. To me it shows the potential of the derby however I'd still play the game at the clubs home ground of the SFS & Parra. Olympic Stadium is a bit of a canyon.

Only played there because Wests never had a ground at the time.

If we are league two level, then our attendances are even more impressive.

Wrexham is an outlier.

Before covid and the salary cap cut, I think most a league teams would have been mid table league one.

At the moment, i think the level of the A-league is terrible, but I have also watched some lower tier english football and think that is terrible also.
I think we are way in advance of League 2. Also, League 1, because our coaches are better trained tactically. Even though we wouldn’t have the depth of experienced players.

There is no doubt in my mind that perception of the value of the Premiership versus the Championship has changed over the years to align with global football culture. Everyone I know sees the Premiership as the prize and the Championship simply as an end of season knockout cup, there to make money for APL. That's my take on declining finals attendances. The GF is different because it pulls in the event goers who would not normally go to an A League game anyway.

I'm an old fart now but played state div 1 when young, and it was then very much the Champions were the table toppers and then there was a cup comp for all comers. I have always found the Finals Series thing bizarre, because it is not the football culture I grew up with, and I've always been irked by the fact that it is yet another cultural cringe thing we have plastered on from the hick sports of AFL and NRL. I guess it gives the season a focal point, but if we were competitive in the ACL, I doubt that we would need that. AND if there was serious prize money for the Premiers.

More and more countries have them. Belgium's Jupiler League has three: the relegation playoffs (understandable), the championship where the top 6 clubs compete (understandable) and one for the middle table teams (WTF???).

Yes, I have heard that. Interesting that Belgium is a small country with a relatively small comp. Perhaps, like here it is a way to extend the season and extend the revenue harvesting.

I should add that I think P/R is an important part of the picture too. The Premier League I played in had P/R, and it counterpointed the value of the Championship. We really, really need P/R. When I was 18 I played for team that was relegated and I can vouch first hand for how devastating that is for players and everyone else in a club. The A League suffers horribly from the lack of consequences of failure.

Unfortunately I cannot see a franchise based competition like the A League ever having a promotion/relegation structure. It would be a major disruption of the franchise system business model and kill off any future investment.
