(probable) retirement announcement of Simon hill

probably a bit critical of community based clubs?
Has he? I've never seen or heard that... doesn't mean it didn't happen though. But I've lost count of the number of times he's wished for a connected pyramid. Anything wrong with being critical though? Hill is critical of many things, endlessly of APL and FA.

yeah to be honest no quotes from Simon stand out to me

then again, it's not a sore spot for me so I might just not notice them or quickly forget them if he said something hurtful to supporters of traditional clubs

I wonder if he will be involved with football at all over there. Pretty sure before he came out here he only did cricket in England.
Probably pretty hard to break in in the uk id imagine

Mind you he has a pretty good and clear voice

The perfect time for Simon Hill to leave would have been when he left Fox Sports after they helped destroy the game. Maybe he wasn’t able to return home during the middle of the pandemic?

Anyway, I am glad he stayed and we were able to enjoy his dulcet tones for a few more years.

With the A-League rights up in 12 months, I wonder if he has any inside information that may have helped make up his mind?

But I do have a feeling he won’t be lost to Australian football screens. If SH ends up freelancing, I wouldn’t be surprised if SBS will chase him to do the 2026 WC.

See, I would have thought there would be shitloads of work with all of the leagues over there. Plus they will need English speaking commentators to commentate on games from the continent, Asia, etc,

There is critical and there is downright derogatory... Claiming an Australian of Asian heritage would NEVER be a member of a Greek "evil effnikz" football club and then doubling down when pulled up on his racism was quite over the top.

I get that these small pond "celebrities" really drink their own bathwater but he covered himself in shame over that one... No loss for me, he had started sounding very smug these past few years... let him ride off back to where he came from and give an up and comer a crack.

Thought to review some articles of the past Re Hill.
Some interesting quotes he made only back in '23 re the top end game and heirachy.

Another '23....
"Whatever the make-up of the new NSD, it should help heal some of the wounds of the old soccer/new football split of 2005, and provide more opportunities for players, coaches, administrators, journalists. This alone, is a reason to be cheerful – God knows, the football economy needs to expand from its current miniscule footprint, on all fronts."

MSC, I can't find anything relating asian heritage and SMH.

Mmm... I can definitely see both sides of it, but it does seem a bit blown up don't you think? It's a genuine talking point, Simon thinks it won't work for new arrivals, others disagree. It's a good discussion, I don't see why the need for hate. The "Asian" bit seems only used an example as they are probably the majority of newcomers, not targetted racism. Any nation or race or colour could've been used and his concern is still the same. South fans think that concern isn't valid. Everyone said their piece, move on. Just another discussion on the football landscape.

My 2c. Are Asians, new arrivals or any other nationalities fans of South? Yes. Are Asians, new arrivals or any other nationalities staying away from South because they're known as a "Greek club"? Yes. Both can be correct. I don't think it's controversial, just reality.

do Indians watch A-league or NPL? I think they're more interested in cricket.

Do these two statement NOT contradict each other in your mind though? How can you want a club to "expand its parameters" for lack of a better phrase and then claim it doesn't have the ability to because of its past??? Its just revisionist garbage, designed to justify the position of the status quo (and employer for some) in my eyes....

Anyway I wish the bloke well too ... who really cares what he thinks of us anyway....

Sorry not on twitter so didnt have a point of reference.. as to threads etc... If it doenst come up in my google search twitter is invisible to me :)
The offending quote was
"and btw, I never EVER said SM were “too Greek” - don’t ever put me in that basket. I said your club strongly identifies with your Greek roots, and therefore why would New arrivals from Asia identify with that? Very different."

I kept the bold font he had

in the case of greek clubs in melbourne it probably doesn't matter whose right since the Greek population is big enough to support a big club.

Not contractory, I think they can absolutely both be correct statements, don't you? Some have joined South, some stay away? Seems common sense. It's not about wants, just stating how it is. Doesn't mean I like it nor agree ☮️
