Sign Up Now!If this is Leonrad, I'm really impressed with his current progress.Yeah needs work on his aerial abilities. He's too good on the ball to be wasted in the lower leagues of England if the Celtic interest is true I hope they loan him back a season then he might be closer to being ready.
I read an article, kindly posted here I think, where Jed Drew said playing in the Austrian Bundi, in BPO he is closed down more quickly than in the AL. This is good - less time and space to operate.Austria is a popular move atm for Aussies. It's never front of mind for me as a league but I don't mind it as a stepping stone. I wonder where it's rated amongst other Euro leagues? Also how does it go for transfers for future progression?
Ta.I want to track these moves and rumours in a list.
Have I got this right? Any missing?
Aussies Abroad Transfers - Summer 2025

- Adrian Segecic to Rapid Vienna - Austria (1)
- Noah Botic to St Pauli - Germany (1)
- Jaylen Pearman to QPR - England (2)
Agree. This would be a smart move for him, he could do a Teague and make the Socceroos squad going into the World Cup, talented player from what I’ve seen from him in the u20 Asian cup.
You'd expect to be closed down more quickly in leagues that play in the winter months compared to leagues that play in the summer months. I'm wary about comments from players about leagues they have moved to. I think a lot of the remarks are probably self-serving. Who wants to suggest their career is going sideways or backwards. Plus sucking up to the boss. Okay, comments can be both self-serving and true but I just give little weight to them. For the record, I consider moves to the Austrian Bundi a reasonable option for some of our players.I read an article, kindly posted here I think, where Jed Drew said playing in the Austrian Bundi, in BPO he is closed down more quickly than in the AL. However, a while back, former Socceroo, Holland, said the Austrian Bundi has different coaching than in Aus. We are currently aligned with Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium coaching, so we aren't going too far wrong.
Drew considered the Austrian Bundi a step up from A L- so a good option for Aussies.

The summer heat should not be underestimated. You can see the difference in intensity even within the Aleague for matches played in the heat compared to matches played at night at reasonable temperatures. You can't press the same way and it reduces the quality.Probably all good points you've raised , Dr B.
With the closing down, it was a nuance different from the AL. Drew didn't say it was 'better'. I did.
He said there were a lot of big, strong defenders too in Austria.
The weather is a big difference maker here plus you already have the problem with the humidity especially at night which you estimate also. The summer heat should not be underestimated. I can't remember if I have said this previously, but I would expect one side effect of the increase in youth is a decline in the defensive strength of the league. Young players just aren't as good at this aspect in particular. It doesn't surprise me the number average number of goals have increased as the average age has decreased.
I'd prefer Leonard to go to France lower tier team or upper Div 2, Eredividisie, Belgium, Switzerland, Austrian Bundi or Japan 1.
The weather probably has some impact on training as well I would think. Lower intensity again by default due to the heat? Also a lot of Euro clubs are just attrition and survival of the fittest. They have bigger squads and can push them much harder, see who comes out the other end. Here we have to try and maximise every player so you can't force players through such a training load because if you have a year like Spurs, there just won't be anyone to put on the pitch. The weather is a big difference maker here plus you already have the problem with the humidity especially at night which you estimate also.
I just hope with enough time they can adapt, the problem they also have is they often get injured when they start playing over there and I’m not sure what the solution is for that.
When talking about higher transfer fees we want our players to do well when they go over so if we can improve the environment more here it will better for the long run.
I haven't seen enough of him and am not great at judging potential anyway, but if we have hopes for him making it at a top 5 league level, Celtic are a great side. Despite being a huge club, they are a selling club for their top players, who generally move onto bigger leagues. So a great shop window. And they dominate matches so he would be playing with the ball so they have to be the best technical side in SPL.Yep would love to see him go to a more technical league. Belgium seems to be really good place for our players O'Neill, Maty, Bos have all done well there. Nearly half the country speaks english so it can make the transition easier. Great shop window into the bigger euro leagues.
I wonder if he's going off to find senior experience? Where he goes will be interesting.Chris Donnell departing Fulham.
