CommBank now the new naming rights sponsor for the Socceroos from September 1st onwards, in addition to having naming rights for all men's age grade sides. They're now the major sponsor for Football Australia at all levels as part of the new deal spanning the next six years.
The Commonwealth Bank, that's a good sponsor to have, I suppose the Commonwealth Bank could see the increasing popularity of football in Australia, and have decided to jump on the bandwagon.

A more well known brand than Subway, so it probably should give Football a better awareness level. What happens to the NAB, aren't they involved with miniroos?

If I remember correctly Coles still have naming rights for Miniroos and the new deal retains CommBank as an official partner. They only gain naming rights for the Socceroos, all men's age grade sides, the Emerging Matildas and the Emerging Socceroos Championships from September 1st onwards.

Just forget the government's ignoring of the game for a second but who potentially has the bigger kitty to invest? Government or a bank? Sponsorship isn't ownership so it's not like it's some massive injection of cash.

I mean, why do companies sponsor things? Being a good corporate citizen, gets their name out there, tax write offs?

Does a bank really think their name hovering around will get people to change accounts or seek out a mortgage? If they were smart they'd set up some kind of Matildas bank account aimed at young girls and educate on financial literacy. Are women more affected by bad pension levels in old age?

I don't buy Coca Cola because their name is plastered over every tournament. They're not worried about my money I'm sure.

BTW, did anyone eat more subway due to the Roos affiliation not to mention the timing of the WC performance.

They already have incentives in place to have Matildas players promote small businesses but the bank account idea sounds good also.

Marketing slush fund tax write offs.
Branding.
Incentives to the competitors and drip down to supporters to a degree.
You or I won't care about subway coke or a commbank acc but a % do.
Big picture large corp like having Qantas good for the FA imo and 6yrs great term.
Good coup by the FA correct libelous all JJ on this.

A CBA spokesperson said: “We were keen to continue our long-standing relationship with Cricket Australia and made a very attractive offer to them, but they have decided on commercial grounds to go in a different direction.”
Enter Westpac for CA.

That's something. CBA ties in their partners and customers who hopefully benefit from more custom.

I see a lot of the sponsors in Europe are things that don't resonate with the regular person so it's more the corporate world all promoting each other and deals done upstairs.

You might not buy it because the name is plastered everywhere, but you definitely know about the brand because of this. People can't buy your product if they don't know you exist, so it is the first step. Also about embedding themselves in the culture for the big brand names. It might just be convenient opportunity, but a company like CBA probably prefers a national sponsorship such as cricket or football, over sponsoring a specific league.

Interesting to note Westpac on both origin shirts last night. Hadn't occurred to me.

You're right there's a percentage there and they'll have their plan drawn up of how it all interconnects and benefits themselves.

Remember when Rene Rivkin brought Manchester United out in 99? My uncle went through the official program and found his portrait and said 'every page in here is good except this one'.

Have you ever heard the saying "good products sell themselves"? Well, they don't. That is why you have branding (infect the kiddies) and advertising.

Well, who here ever had a Dolomites account in school? Forgotten it? With interest it's probably worth a grand or more.

There is research about this. I don't have the link on me. But it is one of the reasons it was ceased. People who had the dollarmite account were extremely likely to continue using cba as their bank in adulthood. They were able to sign children up for their products, getting a jump start on every other company.

Cigarette companies used to create toy versions of their products, compete with branding. People were more likely to start smoking that brand when they were old enough.

Football Australia has confirmed that CommBank will become the FIFA World Cup-bound Socceroos’ new naming rights sponsor as part of the financial institution’s growing investment in the sport.

Already the main backer of the Matildas, CommBank will take over from Subway as the Socceroos’ major sponsor in September.

It’s part of a new six-year deal, reportedly worth between $10m and $15m each year, that will result in the bank becoming FA’s major sponsor at all levels.

FA must be laughing all the way to the bank!!! $10 -15m a year is great, now only if the APL can get there shit together.
