AFL thread

$110 million and 8,000 capacity! For what??

Womens AFL and the VFL teams.... meanwhile, what is the APL building for its "clubs"?

To be fair, everyone remembers the Vuck’s Footscray Park kerfuffle ie. the allegedly sport-neutral NIMBYs putting the kibosh on it..before it was reframed as a win against ‘the interloper foreign code’..
That was 4-5 years ago though... what about since then?

Excuse me I'm just an idiot I don't know anything but football in this country lacks a proper suit. Across apl FFA all the state feds we get our asses kicked until we get someone like Johnson back in

You serious? James Johnson was an arsehole like all the rest of them❗

We need either a seasoned ⚽️ administrator from overseas, or hear me out…Fozzie(if he can be somehow persuaded away from his ‘SJW’-proclivities)💡

Re. the Jesse Motlop celebration-tribute to Jota in the other thread, I can’t say I’m altogether surprised by the b0gan match-commentators’ 2c on it..

Rugby League had a cup competition in the 80s I think. AFL would be smart to have something like, oh I don't know... The invention of THE AUSTRALIA CUP

The AFL(VFL at the time) actually had a Champions League-style comp in the late ‘70s that pitted the top teams from the different State Leagues against each other. It didn’t last long and supposedly wasn’t very popular w/fans, but its enduring image was an incident at Waverley Park where the automated sprinkler-system went off during a match between Hawthorn and WA club Claremont..

It’s typically misremembered as having been a regular-season match between Hawthorn and Richmond, due to Claremont wearing the same kit as Richmond and also sharing the Tigers nickname.

Anyways, they did bring it back in 2009 under the name ‘Foxtel Cup’ but w/o the AFL clubs taking part; not even their reserve-sides playing instead. It goes w/o saying that’s what did it in after one edition.

Was it 2009? I vaguely remember it going on during my internship with AFL ACT in 2013.
