Back in the day there was the odd one, a good example being Ray Price who played for the Parramatta rah rahs before switching to League for the Eels, and playing for Aust at both codes.

Back in the day, their was plenty that went to league from union. Union was amateur until 1995.

yep throw in Johnny Brass/Fairfax to name a couple more - NRL paid the $$$ as Sutho mentions, why stay in rah rah for pittance but for the so called "prestige" because Union was the main game amongst the snobby Private schools and white collar brigade.

So called 'amateur' in the 90s for Union. I remember some bloke on a contract getting $1 million or something and they asked Campese what it was like to see someone else become the first millionaire in Union and Campo just laughed.
