2025 Australia Cup final rounds thread

Personally I'd rather keep the number of pro clubs (currently 11), maybe drop to 10 or increase to 12. Then that 10-12 is divided among both A-League and Championship (assuming the Championship becomes a proper pro league). I would have 1st and 2nd from both comps auto qualifying. Then the rest...

    The Western United Thread

Gotta feel for the young players. The main starting XI will be able to get offers from a number of other AL clubs. Thurgate will get snapped up quicker than you can say "shovel-ready". On the other hand, the young ones and the squadies may find it a bit difficult though, especially with the...

With the high standard of play in the A-League, why are the crowds so low?

I disagree. They are filling their venue every week. They are one of the few AL clubs that actually have an appropriate sized home ground. It took them too long to get to that point, but if they can keep up the good results on the pitch they will easily overtake MC in terms of crowd figures...

With the high standard of play in the A-League, why are the crowds so low?

Ok, my two cents. Firstly, I don't think A-League crowds are low. I reckon they have just settled to or more organic level. Quality on the pitch is not that much of a factor. Obviously when an individual club is performing poorly it's going to effect turn-out for that club, but overall I don't...

Things we would like to see in season 25/26

I get where you're coming from, it was an extra round, however the 'home' team still takes the share of ticket sales, so it's not completely irrelevant. However, the discussion is probably largely irrelevant as it is only worth doing if there is gov funding. Without it, I'd say things just...

Things we would like to see in season 25/26

It's a tough one. Let's say NSW gov decided to extend the deal. Currently it's $4m per year. That money goes to the APL. However the side effect is that any interstate 'home' teams get reduced ticket sales for their 'home' game because the game is not at home and fans have demonstrated they are...

It's not just the license fee. Then there is all the other expenses related to starting and running a business. I'll wish them well, but definitely makes you wonder what the motivation is.

Things we would like to see in season 25/26

The deal with Destination NSW was for 3 years, which is now over. Interesting to see if it gets renewed or if it gets shopped around to other states. Without the gov funding, it would be difficult to justify continuing with it, as on it's own would be a net loss.

    A league final

It's not a display. It's vendors that sell vintage football kits. I'm sure there will be some old MV kits for sale, but at a guess I'd say mostly 90's/00's English and Euro clubs.

(probable) retirement announcement of Simon hill

He will be calling the Socceroos WCQ games against Japan and Saudi in June. Then heading back to the UK. I wish him the best. Not easy being involved in football in Aus, so totally get his decision to leave.
