    ALM/W TV deal

This 1,000%. For those based in NSW, look at the coverage Fairfax papers (i.e. SMH) provide rugby union at the moment, but avoids anything A-League. It is absurdly disproportionate to the level of crowds, attendance and general interest between the two codes / competitions. The media blackout...

With the high standard of play in the A-League, why are the crowds so low?

Yes, I do. In response to your points: 1. Your actions are not reflective of the broader population given that (a) you are on a football forum and (b) the question is in relation to to those who do not attend. 2. Why would I expect a huge influx of casuals? Because we have seen it before. The...

With the high standard of play in the A-League, why are the crowds so low?

There are any number of factors that could be raised in responding to the headline, but the one and only significant answer is MEDIA. We know the sport is enjoyed widely in Australia (e.g. participation figures) and, when there is good media coverage, interest explodes (see world cups, big name...

World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

The World Cup qualification process is very hard. The travel and short turn arounds are tough and severely underappreciated by many outside of the game. To qualify is always an incredible and taxing achievement. Hard to believe where we ended up in the end, with 19 points, and no losses to...

    Football Australia posts $8.5m loss.

The ACT government has a 9 nine year deal with the GWS Giants to play 3 games per season over in Canberra. I have read the deal is $28.5 million. This is, GWS are being paid in excess of $1 million per game by the government. Their game last night drew 9,000 fans. That is over $100 government...

    A league final

I couldn't care less the number of times a whistle is blown, I'd just rather watch a game of football than the crap that was dished up in the second half of that game.

    A league final

Do not care for either team, but the officiating in that game was awful. The amount of crap allowed to go on made it painful to watch. If I want to watch that sort of shit, ill watch the NRL. Allow them to play some proper football.

Not from Melbourne, but just had a look at the Herald Sun and the Age online and I literally cannot find a thing about it....

    Football Australia posts $8.5m loss.

Had a look over it on the weekend, it is actually quite a healthy set of financials particularly given it was a non-WC cycle year and the 'headline' loss figure (I say headline because it was chosen by the author to be the headline) is a tad misleading in light of their cash flow earnings being...

    ALM TV Ratings

The reasoning of wanting to watch the 'best players' does not work once you realise that, particularly for the NRL, the so called 'best players' comes from such a small pool of people that play the sport. Making the Socceroos team is, for a footballer, significantly more difficult than making...

    A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 23 (+Rd 14)

They were rooted, 3 games in 7 days and they walk out to 37 degrees. They were back to the walls defending Wednesday night as well, they just had no legs. Watching live, the distinction in their energy levels from previous weeks was significant. In saying that, Stanton probably should have read...

    Jeobunk sydney match thread

Maybe it is just me, given Harper / Hill seemed so adamant, but that was a tough penalty call. Held his feet, won the ball. Pretty good defending IMO.

Germain quits Macarthur due to standard of refereeing

What a goose. Issue him with a hefty fine on the way out.

    A-league attendances 24/25

They have 4 teams in Australia, with averages last season of 14k (Qld), 12k (NSW), 8K (ACT) and 6k (Perth). For those sorts of numbers, it is quite absurd the level of coverage they receive from Nine / Fairfax.
