Matildas ‘over-achieved’ at 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup

It's becoming very clear that the FA had no plan post Gustavsson and still have no clue or idea what they are doing now for his replacement. It's almost like they are just throwing a name out and seeing what sticks.
Oh boy!! 🤣🤣

Personally if I were James Johnson I'd be on the blower to Joe Montemurro in France naming his asking price to lure him away from France and bring him home.
This should have been lined up when he was here for the World Cup. I would have also then moved in to confirm it as soon as he left Juventus in March. At this point it was clear that Tony was out of his depth and was going to have to be changed. If they wanted to leave Tony for the Olympics, that's fine, but the guarantee should have been on Joe taking over straight after.

I just don’t understand why Football Australia have ignored your ‘expertise’, we would be in a much better place if only they’d listened to you. 😂😂

You clearly have an agenda.

With the way the housing market is, I'm kind of glad there's at least one place I'm living rent free

I have to say that you have an agenda and that is to tear down Australia’s most popular female sports team.
It makes me wonder if you are working for some other sports organisation.
Women’s football have a whole new audience that won’t be swayed by ‘world rankings’ or the forebodings of forum posters regardless of their ‘expertise’ in all matters football.

therefore no harm zimbos's posts in that case.
Nothing wrong a member passing on their opinion considering he's involved in the game and done time abroad.

Of course not , as the old saying goes ‘opinions are like a***holes everybody has one’.😀

Anyone who has known me for longer than the 5 minutes you have would know that I'm a football person. I don't work for any other sports organisation.

I have no agenda to tear down our women's team. You just can't seem to accept that other people have ideas and opinions, and also you don't know how to handle or accept criticism. As soon as someone disagrees with you, you start attacking them, like you've done me.

You say that people won't be swayed by results or world rankings, but give it time and if we continue down this backward trajectory, people will soon not show the same level of interest. The Matildas gained popularity based off of their success. People will not keep spending their hard earned cash if all they are going to watch or turn up to is defeat and disappointment.

There's nothing wrong with what his saying the Matilda's deserve criticism because they have been poor and the fa deserves criticism because we've been without a coach for a year

Of course not, we all deserve criticism of one form or another, no one is perfect.
However there is a difference in criticising a team’s performance and an absolute tearing down of the Matildas in general.
Some of the comments go way beyond what could be considered legitimate criticism.

Here’s a thought for those who are quick to criticise the Matildas recent games.
The Matildas have brought in a whole new generation of young fans (along with their mums) of football that weren’t there just a few years ago . Now tell me that’s bad for our sport.

Lots of negativity here.

It takes time to create a “survey monkey” so the players can have their say.

We don’t want the same situation as before where some of the girls weren’t allowed to share rooms. More harmony, the better for the team!

Why are you so weird dude. Sports teams get criticized all the team, its part of the game.

No one is tearing down the Matildas. There's a difference in level of criticism. There are those who are way more invested in this team than others, and as such it can seem that the criticism is harsher. There are others who don't have that same level of interest and so they don't view things on such deep levels. You have to view the harsher criticisms in the context of who and what. When those people express their views, attacking them isn't helpful to the betterment of the game or the conversation.

That's fine. No one one has said that those new fans are a bad thing for the sport. If anything, we want to keep those fans and continue to grow that base. The way to do that is by winning and being successful on the field. Those fans are not as invested in the sport, so the chances of them losing that interest if we keep losing and doing poorly are higher. They probably are not watching the WSL regularly or most womens leagues outside of the A-league, so when they turn up and watch the Matildas lose quite poorly or they stay up till 1 am to watch a poor performance, they are not going to keep doing that. Not to mention that with the increase in right wing rhetoric, whenever the Matildas do poorly, the socials are bombarded by misogyny.

I could play devil’s-advocate and say the adverse effects of this are more ⚽️-illiterate people whose whole concept of sport is blatantly viewed through the skip/ocker prism of AFL/cricket etc. getting involved in something that is, frankly, largely beyond the scope of most of ‘em.

That answers that question..💡
