You should consider it.

No one improves their vo2max in the kitchen or lifting weights.

Treadmill? From memory these machines usually have a heart rate monitor. Again, good to know HR data and understanding perceived effort.

Watches; Garmin, Polar etc there's a few out there. Good to get a vo2max benchmark to help track progress. The Polar HR strap also records ECG data which is easily decoded with a cheap app.

i do have a smart watch that tracks my HR. i freak out when my HR sits below 40bpm at resting rate, which happened often.

It made me go get checked out. I wore the Heart Monitor for 24 hrs, all tests came back fine.

which makes me think how good and accurate are these smart watches?! (i currently just have a samsung galaxy watch)

Wrist based HRM's can be dodgy, but not so much the brands I mentioned above. Chest straps tend to be more accurate.

I wouldn't worry about the occasional HR spike but if you see a clear pattern emerging then try other equipment or check in with your health professional.

Used to worry about walking 10 000 steps.

The dog has slowed down with age, so what was a brisk walk has slowed to a stroll. Fast walking for me is 100 -110 steps per min, the now slower dog walks are 50 - 80 steps per min.

The pedometer account for my circuit training in the gym. The pedometer didn't record it accurately.

I found a site where there were correlations between equivalent steps taken per min;

martial arts heavy bag work equates to 270 steps per minute;

weight training - moderate 100 steps per min, hard 150 steps per min;

Pilates 100 steps per min;

Yoga 50 steps per min;

gardening 50 steps per min;

cycling 100 steps per min;

circuit weight training 230 steps per min ( no rests between sets and constant).

Below 40 bpm is very low!
 
eat relatively good during week, Do what I want on weekends now.

Many years back, I had a crazy strict diet. I'd only eat one 'cheat' meal a week. Usually ice cream on a sunday. But back then I was doing MMA at a decentish level and trained up to twice a day. Had zero fat almost, was way too full on, but once you get into it it's easy.

Now, I go to gym between 4-6 times a week, actual combat sports only once a week now. Tried playing indoor recently and nearly killed myself lol

Upper body, 2 different sets of cardio in the week (skipping, walking, bike, short runs, ropes), a day of everything (upper, legs, strength, short pad work), a day of abs/holding strength. It really depends.

Considering having another fight mid year, even though I’d be against someone younger, faster and fitter. It’s still a good challenge/goal

Yeah I prefer Garmin. Had other brands over the years but always came back to them. Coros is another that has gained ground over recent years. I sometimes run with both wrist based HRM and chest straps and compare data. My problem with chest straps is that they sometimes don't make great connection. When that happens all data is flawed.

On my 2nd, best golf app wrist watch you can buy, don't bother with all the other garb, see the all important goal step goals pop up and think yer ok but time and connected to the mobile seeing msgs calls is very useful.

Depends on your immediate needs and future expectations.

I don't like buying devices with a million options that I have no interest in using.

Keep it simple, which means you'll probably pay a fair bit less.


I currently use a an FR 945 - I have a personal preference for non-amoled Garmin watches.

Ah you don’t mind having many other features - I agree point is you have the choice how deep you get involved - sometimes less is not more.
Look out for some deals online bought mine at a great price compared to normal RR.
Good to go suss it out first hand.

Multi functionally and i was sold at the Golf Course maps lol
