World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

One has to watch all of a player's performance. Highlights can be misleading.

I interpreted that as superb Celtic performance, outclassing a team who shouldn't be playing in the same league.

I've seen the same awful second ball style of play from Dundee, Dundee United, St Mirren, Motherwell, Queen Of The South, Hearts, Hibs ( also playing against Rangers), Kilmarnock, Ross County and St Johnstone.

It was some time ago, but Triantis was better against Rangers. As a midfielder some of his U 23 Aus team cohorts, or younger u20s, have a better skill set for international football.

Players will improve their 1v1 body on body duels, heading duels in Scotland, but 1v1 attacking skills, first touch, handling speed, running with the ball, positional play in possession, will go backwards, or at best stagnate. Players go to Scotland and don't improve these facets of play, unless playing for Celtic and Rangers.

I'd surmise all Scottish national team players play for Celtic or Rangers, or play in the EPL or English Championship.

I f other teams played like Celtic, who play a quality possession game, albeit at a lower level, Scotland would be a good destination for Aussies.
I did watch full game of Hibs v Celtic and totally agree with you.

Hibs was absolutely awful in that game. Couldnt make 3 passes the whole game.

Triantis 3/10
Iredale 3/10
Miller 2/10
Boyle 1/10

Indonesians are proud regardless but you've got to wonder how this European influence is in regards to many players not being able to speak the language and something of a swift transition in focus on Europe over local development. Of course Australia has had some parallels to this in player sourcing but certainly not on this scale.

You've got to wonder with Kluivert. His management career really doesn't look like much yet you wonder whether he may just add that extra spark with this well developed bunch to get them that bit more ahead. The names and clubs here for Indonesia show they really shouldn't be fazed about a game in Sydney despite jetlag and ramadan and very few sessions which were asked in the first questions.

Hibs
I do agree that scotland is regressive in style. Having said that I do think dominating the scottish league as comprehensively as he has at the age of 21 still "counts" and counts more than dominating the a league.

Style and quality are not the same thing

Well they're both regressive at the moment, so maybe Nectar will be fine.

At least the high quality availability is there but the AFC Youtube page have now completely blocked VPN and each game is ticketed at 3,99 to view.

You seem to have based your opinion of Triantis off 15 mins for Hibs v Celtic and a game he played for Australia as a youth international. It's a bit rich to criticise a highlights package in that context.

Anyway, I think the main point of your post is to give the Scottish league another whack. I think it's flaws as a league are well known.

For anyone in doubt about Triantis' quality, the Sunderland fans are watching him closely and lamenting the fact he's not already wearing their colours.

They can't wait for next year.
they are talking alot of chicken before the egg mind you.
They'll get to the play offs by the look of it but nothing gauranteed as we know.
I expect why they like to have him for their defense is the weak link.
Triantis keep away from Irvine :)

Anyway its finally ROO GAME day !

Traintis is probably an upgrade on Irvine if you ask me, however Irvine's experience can't be replaced.

An upgrade on what? a central midfielder playing out of position?

Besides Irvine being used incorrectly, your talking about upgrading one position for another.

At what? his role? Irvine is a Box to box midfielder that has been playing in an attacking role in the national set up, Triantis is a CB/DM.
for if and when Triantas grows long enough hair for the pony tail :)

Yep out and out defender - suppose Irvine's talking to him so as he knows what to cover his stiff stumbling running style and lack of using both feet :)
NT has some starch in him after just 26 SPL games.
3 goals, 5 assists, 8 yellows, 1 red - I like the greek aussie kid start him up poopa.
