World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

Have to try it but the first time flicks and touches that lead to losses are unfortunate. Want to see some impressive combinations.

It's inevitable especially due to injuries but if it's 3:0 on 70 then subbing a CB may be prudent.

It's not viable. Long balls which our wing backs defensively head forward and then just 2 mids central and our wingers way up. Overstretched.

Indonesia still certainly organised against our build up. Box of 4 around our 2 mids and our centre backs are enticed to pass it there. Very dangerous.

Our wing backs need to move up forward and then Taggart needs to drop deep. I don't like it. We need a flat 4 to prevent the comfort zone of silly passing and extra mids in those holes will offer so much more.

What a strange game, Indonesia were all over us and they could have had a minimum 1-0 or not 2-0 nil then after the VAR decision then game changed completely.
All of a sudden Indonesia's defence looks shaky from our counter attacks and they cant deal with Nishan Velupillay who is having an outstanding game a game where it suits the transitional moments Australia is having out there.

Im not going to lie its weird for us having less of the ball against Indonesia, I would like a bit more possession so we have more control in the game im still not a fan of Irvine as a deep lying midfielder, technically such a limited player but hes alot more effective when hes going into the box for the goal which he took well.

20 years of new dawn and socceroos are still technically inept against 3rd word south east asian opposition

Taggart doest look fully fit just like in A league. Yengi should do a better job at pressing and holding.

That's because we've actually picked our most technically poor players. You could name a better technically player for all 10 outfielders.

We were lucky then made our own luck. Great save by Ryan. Luck of the woodwork for the pen. Then we really took our chances. But it papers over a pretty ordinary game plan like you've outlined. Too much requiring the other team to make mistakes or on corners.

Indonesia are pressing well, surprised they playing such a different style compared to when we played them away where they sat behind a deep block I think the lack of combinations being a newish team is hurting them but I hope they make the World Cup because they are a fanatical football nation and seem to building something big.

We can have more possession if we have Nisbet, and Caceres

The only silver lining I'll take from the expanded WC is the humble pie Eurosnobs will need to eat when the like of Uzbekistan show they're technically and tactically better than others.

Nisbet? the midget from Ross County? Whenever I've seen him play he's lucky if he gets about 3 touches a game and you think he's going to improve possession.

Like to see teague and Goodwin come on
I personally wouldn't risk Goodwin tonight although I'd like to see him in this set up. See how things pan out but at some point bring in suitable changes. The 3 CB yellows are of concern.

definitely set up to win the game off the ball rather than on it. Wonder if poppa's knowledge of kluvert helped?
