A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 24

Not a pen. Slightest touch but there was a touch. You can see the ball pick up rotations after the nick.

mind blowing that badalato gets more time at victory than wsw. What were wsw doing with him?

badalato's corners look pretty lethal

that's a real rarity these days amongst young aussies

Another great game tonight 23 goals this round so far as well, only 11 off from the record which was held a fortnight ago however I would be shocked if the record gets broken this soon!

Also I think you can add Nishan Velupillay as the next player ready for overseas football, I also feel the likes of Milanovic and Teague are potentially next to go too but for the former he looks to be a different player when he's fully fit and motivated from he's Socceroos appearances.

The commentators were saying that a tiny nick on the ball is irrelevant if Arzani was still going to have a chance of controlling it before being taken out.

That makes sense to me and I have no skin in this game - Mariners fan.

P.S. it definitely wasn't a dive. He was scythed down.

Wasn't referring to him diving for the penalty. Just in general. He's a wanker. Great player but falls over far too much.

As for the touch and bringing the player down after you win the ball, care to explain any slide tackle where you knock the ball away and send the player arse up?

Commentators and pundits don't know shit about the laws. They're hopeless when it comes to stuff like this.

PS. I have no skin in this game either.

@NicCarBel thoughts?

He didn't knock the ball away though. He got the tiniest nick and Arzani would've got to it if he hadn't been cut down.

This might be a grey area for the law but a pen was the right result, I feel.

I thought a foul was given for either unsafe play, or for making contact with an opponent while challenging for the ball before you make contact with the ball.

Neither of those applied.

There is no foul for simply making contact.

Excessive force and dangerous play were not relevant in my eyes in a game where contact was allowed from both sides equally.

Now you're splitting hairs. He either touched it first or didn't and if he did touch it then there's no foul.

If you're offside by a millimetre you're offside. There's no 'it was only a little bit'.

I'll tell you why they got it wrong. When the VAR intervened and the ref went over and looked at it a dozen times and he came back onto the field and, I'm paraphrasing here, said 'the defender did not touch the ball therefore it's a penalty'.

He specifically mentioned the 'no touch' aspect of it.

He didn't say yeah he got some but not enough of it so therefore it's a penalty.
