Midweek Friendly Games

BR U23 squad is now the Footbal, QLD centre of excellence squad no?

And to answer RIMB initial question, plenty of NPL clubs play early season Aleague friendlies down here... Preseason training for the NPL clubs and a a mid week squad drill for the ALeague clubs....
As far as I know (and Wikipedia says the same), we ditched our younger youth teams and just kept the older squads.

Extracts from Wikipedia:
Brisbane Roar Academy
On 19 October 2022, the club cut all their academy sides from ages 14-18, leaving only their first grade and U23 men's team.

That said, the same Wiki article says our youth side is under the Academy and the U23s are the second academy team so I am not clear on that.

We have a BRFC youth team in the NPL , and the U23s are our Senior Team reserves as such.

Hope it is clearer to you than it is to me...

Oh, sos did Cavalucci buckle and NOT go ahead with this?

It seems like that article has not been updated with the announcement from a couple of weeks ago. It is difficult to follow, but my (maybe simplistic) take at this stage is that Roar will supposedly run the NPL side but it will be "administered" by FQ, while the team in the NPL U23's (previously Brisbane Roar) will be a select U16 team run by FQ. The term dog's breakfast probably doesn't go anywhere close enough to describe it.

I haven't heard any more on this since the clubs arced up. I can only imagine that legal teams on both sides are being briefed. Cavalucci does not have a history of giving up easily.
Thats why I was so surprised at a certain poster's "inside scoop" that Football QLD is warming to the idea of an NST ... FFS one of the clubs trying to get in isn't even allowed to field a team in NPL QLD because of ... well who knows what the real reason is?..... what a mess.

I suspect FQ may warm to the idea of an NST if the participants in it are something they (FQ) can control. I suspect that what FQ doesn't want is for any club that they currently control (as in play in a competition that FQ control) to be in a league run by another entity and slip out of FQ's grasp.

But they let Sunshine Coast go to another continent rather than facilitate them in QLD?

I don't know any of the details, but apparently there had been animosity between FQ and SC for some time (a couple of years or more). Reading between the lines, it appears that eventually FQ said "we will show you who is in control here" and kicked them out of FQ competitions.

Doesn't exactly sound like a federation willing to work with its members ..... Oh well, we wait and see I suppose.

Its a Fed thinking of themselves and bugga its members.
