What's the difference between a Jazz musician and a pizza?

A pizza can feed a family of 4.

So who likes jazz?

I'm a big fan and a regular listener to ABC Jazz, Jazz FM and Swiss Jazz....

Can't go a day without at least.3 hours of those subtle beautifully arranged wind instruments being piped out of my speakers.....

Who am I listening to atm on Spotify?

Miles Davis

Any other Jazz fans around?

I'm more into metal and occasionally listen to some prog metal that incorporates jazz fusion. Heck, I have even experimented with jazzy sections in my own songs but if you could recc a jazz album for a metalhead be my guest, would love to explore more into the genre.

Some of John Coltrane's early stuff was often cited by the likes of The Doors and The Byrds as influential to them.

So try Coltrane's 'Blue Train'.

One album I always recommend to Jazz 'beginners' is Miles Davis's classic 1959 'Kind of Blue' an amazing piece of work and one of the biggest selling jazz albums of all time.

can't deny jazz is brilliant and some of the past are icons of the industry and influenced many future muso's no doubt about that.
Not my 1st option go to to sit back and listen but tbh I never am the type to think, oh I'll chill out sit back have a drink and turn a tune on my own.
I'm more into 60/70/80's rock/pop OS and aussie bands that with a group entertaining at home will have those tunes pumping in the background.
The wife plays lots of music whilst we're doing chores or whatever at home.
On my own in the car at times its full volume and my playlists similar to above.

Jones sure was a icon of the game thats for sure.

Yep. Variety is the spice of life.

I'm sure you would know some of the big commercial greats like Beatles/Cream/Led Zep/Stones/Clapton/one of my earlier favs Hendrix/Winter/Ray Vaughan/Creedance to name a few influenced alot from Jazz.
Watched a recent doco again on Elvis, he was deeply into it and influenced.

Hey Bat, I have travelled many many many times on biz to Nashville, have enjoyed countless evenings around those blue's bars downtown.
Got to say pretty epic nights and most doing gigs there are the Bgrade muso's hoping for a break through.
I recall one night long ago a very typical african/american as known today in his glittering gold suit - damn these guys can always pull it off wearing wild and loud threads, I'd say he was in his 80's being he was staying near his stage stool, pumping out blues amazing, I'll never forget that night very impressive.
Also been to Opryland (now known as Opry Mills damn shopping mall), just wow what a auditorium.

You lucky bugger...I've never been to Nashville. I've been told by others that it's epic....

I did have amazing 5 days in New Orleans mind. 😍

N'awlins haha
yes another classic place, 5days very nice.
Ol Elvis started back in Memphis but within a year went to Nashville due to label buy out.
Considering your jazz fix bucket list get to Nashville mate.

A lot of people say The French Quarter has changed since N'ola's 'heyday' but Frenchman St still has a very, very jazzy undercurrent running through it.

My 3 favourite jazz clubs

1 Ronnie Scott's - London
2 Spotted Cat - New Olreans
3.The Jazz Lab - Melbourne

Melbourne is actually a very underrated jazz city in international terms.

Interesting thread.I am more into blues and New Orleans trad jazz but all genres can be great if you spend time listening even C and W.

Yes booney there’s good vibes in all we all just gravitate what ticks your box’s most I guess.

Bat for sure nothing stays the same as long ago.
Shame sometimes but gens change and music moves on with the gens.
Done nothing in melb for music being a sydneyite and here has changed much compared to my youth and pub live bands everywhere and one major estab for jazz blues was named The Basement I used to frequent.
Live smaller cover band places have come to be here that has been good to attend.
Place called Camalot in marrickville - many varied bands and music in their schedules incl sulsa jazz rock pop evenings, my wife and friends enjoy these nights a lot !

Jazz like most other music genre's is a very broad church. And personally I do like that....

I'll jump around the various styles, can go from trad jazz one day to acid jazz the next.

No love for the Noosa Jazz Club?

Actually I'm a member and we're always looking to put on enjoyable concerts and sessions at our venue Majestic Theatre in Pomona, plus the brilliant Noosa Jazz Festival in the first week of September.

We had the amazing Galapagos Duck a few months back and they were fantastic. Been at it for over 50 years.

Actually Flying Bat is spot on......

I lived in London for 14 years and Ronnie Scott's is the one hell of a jazz club! Amazing place!!
