♔ ♕ ♚ ♛ Australia U17/U20/U23 National Team Tournaments & Discussion Thread ♔ ♕ ♚ ♛

So this Arena kid who is playing in the Euros u17 for Italy scored overnight, another one that will be hard to cap like Volpato?

Duel nationals are never easy especially in a country like ours.
The southern European communities in Australia are much stronger and more connected than the northern and western ones. Probably stems a lot from the more communal nature of the cultures.

I think it's why we are more likely to lose players to a Balkan nation or Mediterranean country.

Marcus Neil looks a serious talent I'm excited he has chosen Australia
I think we might be even underestimating how good he could be. For context Villa, Brentford and Chelsea were all chasing Spurs young striker Lehane who is 18 and scored 13 in 21 games in the u18s.

Marcus is 16 and scored 16 in 22 games. In a much weaker team than spurs u18s. He also had a run in the PL2 playoffs. I would assume he will be considered home grown as well making it much easier to get a gig at an EPL side.

Haaland's dad was a defender, Marcus' dad was one too, maybe thats the formula? No one better to train a striker than a top class defender.

I’ve always had the same theory. I also think about the Thuram brothers. Their dad was a world class defender. One son is a top striker and the other is a top midfielder with great defensive attributes. I also have a theory that it goes the other way around as well but my mind has gone blank as to who I was thinking of when I originally decided that haha.

Looks like a full strength side. Awesome to see irankunda, de Jesus, youlley and younis come in. They're going to be very competitive.

Also I assume Osuru is the new name Lino is going by now?

After they won the U20 Asian Cup I revised a team for the World Cup and it's essentially this team, but with Hall, Bennie, Di Pizio and Waddingham. Bennie and Hall are essential, Waddingham and Di Pizio are interchangeable with selected players. But it's exciting to see no restrictions besides injury to this U20 squad. We may see a full-strength squad attack one of these tournaments for once and they have the ability to make a severe impact.

Underrated selection is Franco Osuru (Lino).

So great to see so many of our youth teams in action, I can remember when the FFA wouldn't even bother doing these sort of camps before going into AFC youth cups with little to no preparation!

With the u16s, u18s, u20s and u23 in action that's almost everyone except for the u17s, a shame they couldn't qualify for the World Cup which would have been every under age team involved but that's still quite impressive to see so many young players exposed to international play.

I personally looking forward to the u20s, a frontline consisting of Irankunda and Younis on the wings with one of the promising strikers involved and a midfield three consisting one of Pearman, Badolato and Okon Jr it sounds like an exciting team given what we saw at the Asian Cup.

Will be interesting to see how the u18s go with Richard Garcia coaching.

Trevor Morgan has done a tremendous job with the young socceroos and we saw how good they look a couple of years ago in these mini tournaments. Will be interesting if Richard Garcia can also get something similar going with this group.
