Sign Up Now!The ACT government has a 9 nine year deal with the GWS Giants to play 3 games per season over in Canberra. I have read the deal is $28.5 million. This is, GWS are being paid in excess of $1 million per game by the government. Their game last night drew 9,000 fans. That is over $100 government funding per attendee. Talk about a handout! And that is before we even bring in the Blacktown drama and the fact the new stadium built for them at Homebush.Football need to learn to stand on its own two feet. Like the AFL
Who use their two feet to stand there and received billions in handouts.
I’ve got a post somewhere outlining this actually for the ACT Government in comparison to their similar funding deals with local teams - will have to track it downThe ACT government has a 9 nine year deal with the GWS Giants to play 3 games per season over in Canberra. If football received that sort of a benefit on a per attendee basis, the Newcastle Jets would have received ~$8m this season and be self funded without the need for a wealthy owner to cover losses. For the women's world cup, which actually drew in significant tourism dollars, that would equate to over $200 million. Imagine where the A-League, where the National Second Division and just where junior football facilities would be at had these sorts of benefits been received.

I think that you will find that all state & territory governments do the same irrespective of political affiliation or philosophy. Remember the ancient Roman maxim: "Give the people bread and circuses".It’s borderline corruption from Barr, clearly his personal preference, not what the community want or need.
To put it politely, he’s a prick of a person. Not just this, but the way he’s managed things around the death of little Rozalia Spadafora doubles things down. It’s borderline corruption from Barr, clearly his personal preference, not what the community want or need.
Hence my unwavering belief that the game in this country needs to forget about appealing to ‘mainstream Australia’ once and for all, for one; the other is we have to get serious about improving our footballing currency by producing better players and coaches, because waiting on foreign investment is largely a waste of time.If football is ever to have significant status in this country, it will have to build from the grassroots up. State governments are highly parochial, and AFL and NRL, and to an extent, rugby, because of the old school connections, are embedded in the political structures in the states they dominate. The federal government is more open minded, because of the global connections football facilitates - but the states, forget it.
It is unfortunate that we have such a mediocre Roos team because that is our point of leverage federally.
What ive been arguing all along, its been the biggest myth pipe dream, waste of time, zero benefit, work to everyone elses advantage - crap ever!Hence my unwavering belief that the game in this country needs to forget about appealing to ‘mainstream Australia’ once and for all, for one; the other is we have to get serious about improving our footballing currency by producing better players and coaches, because waiting on foreign investment is largely a waste of time.
Why does AFL receive so much funding when they have so much profit? It's like ignoring the poor but funding the rich. And how is it acceptable for AFL to make (be donated) so much profit when a not-for-profit?View attachment 2105\
