The EV Thread

Tell that to the kids in the Congo mining cobalt for batteries.

They have batteries now that don't need cobalt.

But just a sidebar: Do you care about the cobalt mined there for laptops, phones and TV's or just EVs? What about prosthetics, alloys, radiation therapies and electroplating.

Talk is cheap but things are looking very promising.

Just EVs for me .... Laptops, phones and giant TVs are useful consumer products :P

It's like wind turbines. THEY CAN'T RECYCLE THEM !!!!

Oh, do you care about recycling your washing, machine, vacuum cleaner, PC, TV, dishwasher or just wind turbine blades?

I mean I dont have the same emotional connection with my washing machine and vacuum cleaner as I do with my tellie and my car.... WIndmills are OK, I like watching them spin around and around, its soothing.

Which ones are you all driving?

PS thank you for saving the planet

Low energy attempt at a troll but I'll take you up.

They're the future. Them, hybrids and if they can sort infrastructure out for hydrogen.

Mate if they get these solid state batteries up at a decent cost and they take no time to charge it's game over. Like I said before, this is the beginning, not the end.
I know mate, still doesn't change the fact I DON'T LIKE ELECTRIC CARS........

I'm just making the point that the anti-renewable brigade, who wouldn't recycle shit because they see it as a commo plot, seem overly concerned about recycling but only as it relates to windmill blades..

Fuck those guys mate.....Just as bad as the giant douchebags flying around the planet in their private jets and then having the gall to be self proclaimed environmentalists while getting out of their Tesla and sipping a vegan latte from a recyclable cup....

I aint no climate change denier but FFS McDonalds bears more responsibility for methane emissions globally than private car ownership.... Im not having a bar of it, when they manage to secure and implant renewable non polluting energy for ALL industrial, commercial and transport infrastructure around the world then, and ONLY then I may consider buying a little battery toy car, until then..... fark that I love the smell of petrol :)

I know what cobalt is and what it is used for. My comment was in relation to the glib statement about EV's saving the planet (which obviously in itself they won't) compared to the human suffering associated with the mining of a metal which has been, and probably will be for some time yet, a component of EV batteries. And yes, I know that cobalt is used in batteries for many products, but the largest use of cobalt in batteries currently is for EV batteries.

I'm guessing you'd be driving an MG or BYD yeah?

Good to see you're passionate about this subject. Well in, muzzah👍🏻

And what if I do? What is your actual problem with someone driving them?

Charge it for free off my solar panels. No service costs. Quiet.

I wish I could afford one.

Where did I say I have a problem with them?

So no service costs? Are you sure?

@Muz, are you investing in green energy ETF's or Hydrogen?

They're rock bottom currently and I just wonder if I'm going to have massive regrets in 20 years. At 3€ a pop currently why would I care about losing 500 bucks?

Comparatively almost none but yes some. Once every 2 years I think I've read.

I have a diesel challenger. It's a big heavy fuel thirsty 4WD. I barely use it. Probably drive it 5k a year. If I need to go any distance I take the wife's Kia at literally half the fuel. I'd sell it tomorrow if I didn't need it to beach launch my boat.

This is a great development.

Imagine. You drive to work, charge your car off the panels FOR FREE then come home and plug it into the wall and run your house of it when electricity is at it's highest price. Any excess can be then sold into the grid to even out base load draw.
