General A Leagues thread (Men and Women) 2025/26 season

Not a fan of Alou Kuol, Kalgan a great club man for them, Doka their best player. Weird they have made no signings, are CCM in big trouble?
Their own owner put them under a transfer embargo, that’s why they haven’t signed anyone

Maybe there just going for a youth system once again. They have produce the goods but as seen last season they fell flat without key signings. I doubt there in trouble but in saying that will they have another season like the last one? Losing there key defender to Glory is a big miss.

Just noticed that the first three A-League Johnny Warren Medal winners were all Australian (Bobby Despotovski, Nick Carle, Joel Griffiths), then from 2008/09 to 2021/22 there was only one: Nathan Burns in 2014/15. The last 4 winners have all been Aussies: Joel Brimmer, Craig Goodwin, Josh Nisbet, and Nicolas Ivanovic.

I posted this on the Perth/AC Milan thread, but it really belongs here. It was prompted by the abject humiliation visited by Perth on the A League against AC Milan. There seems to be no end to Perth's slowmotion trainwreck.

The League is in bad shape. Perth, Western United, Brisbane, Melb City, and the Bulls are an embarrassment to the competition, between abysmal performances, financial disaster, and non existent crowds. Victory's crowds have halved. Wanderers play home games in front of endless empty seats. The Jets likewise. And Wellington, well, what the Nix do is pretty much irrelevant to the overall health of the A-League.

Doesn't leave much, does it? Sydney, Adelaide, and Auckland. Three clubs that are ok to doing well (actually only Auckland in the last category - and, for the record, I am strongly in favour of NZ clubs in the A League).

Neither FFA, FA, nor APL have EVER, to my knowledge, expressed any vision for the future direction of the A League. Talk about a rudderless ship with an incompetent crew. APL stewardship has been an unmitigated disaster.

TBH, I'm surprised, positively, that the League hasn't folded under the weight of financial losses of the clubs. That fact, in the face of the current state of play, is the only grounds for optimism right now.

Where is the APL in all this? Where is the vision, the plan for moving forward? All we get is yet another tightening of the financial noose. Necessary - I accept that, but already questionable standards of play and therefore reputation will take another hit. What I don't accept is the leadership vacuum, the black hole that is the current APL.

No matter what APL says, the current ratings are NEVER going to attract a commercially meaningful tv deal.

Contrast APL with the AFL. I have no time for the game, but that is what proactive leadership looks like.

Reminder also that both Melbourne City (ACL Elite) and Macarthur (ACL Two) are to be fixtured on Friday & Saturday slots before AFC club competition fixtures held the following midweek and both clubs are also required to be fixtured in Isuzu UTE A League Men on Saturday & Sunday the following weekend after AFC club competition fixtures that took place midweek.

They should just go to Jubilee ( Kogarah ) Oval. Leichhardt Oval would cause them to lose a ton of money as it has essentially zero corporate facilites ( that shit Centurion Lounge doesn't count for those of you who know the ground )
