    World Cup 2026 Australia thread

I'm gobsmacked everyone has forgotten Ryan Strain. Head and shoulders our best right back.

The Australian National Football Team General Discussion*OFFICIAL*

Pretty amazing. Just goes to show how hard it is to score at the World Cup. They have to be crackers.

Has anyone posted on here about Arzani to Ferencvaros? I was hoping he'd go to Hearts - easier to follow his progress - but Ferencvaros is a decent move.

I agree, kinda... But any young player will want to test themselves in Europe. You can't blame him and he IS good enough, after all.

In fact, he's my prediction for our long term LB if he can get his injury situation right. Probably the sort of player Popa would like also.

Farrell is technically brilliant. It's just that he's been so injured that they've been unable to assess his technique so far.

On the Nizzy height question (apart-height in my view)... An Aussie coach working overseas is a mate of mine (he knows Nizz very well). Last time he was in Oz he came to mine for a BBQ and we discussed the Nizz situation - when he was rumoured to go to Ross County but hadn't signed. This is...

And as he has done all his career, Nizz will again prove the doubters wrong.

I disagree he's our best presser. He used to be good but doesn't get near his targets these days. Compare him with the way Matty Simon used to press. Simon was never a great technical player but he prevented the other team from playing easy balls from the backs into the midfield. So effective...

Very true. Stuff said via keyboard lacks all the social nuance of banter so can escalate in ways it wouldn't in person. We all love football and just want it to do well in Oz.

I didn't say he wasn't a dickhead. So was Maradona - absolute arsehole - but I loved watching him play. Greatest player ever by miles IMnsHO

Agreed. Another one was Irankunda hitting the post with a thunderbolt against either Bahrain or Indo and the ball then hit the keeper and could have gone anywhere. Might have meant a massively different campaign - not least for Arnie and Irankunda.

I keep seeing people call Arzani a diver or tantrum chucker but I've never noticed anything. Indeed I have seen him fouled constantly and get nothing from the ref - hence his incredulity sometimes. Thing is, for me, he's one of the X factor footballers I most enjoy watching - and I am very far...

With the high standard of play in the A-League, why are the crowds so low?

This thread reassures me that the football pyramid will one day definitely be reunited in Oz. Hooray!

Thanks Jon I had a look at the last two pp of each Off Topic thread. It is robust but hasn't quite crossed the line. Lupi is definitely a dickhead though. I'll keep an eye on it. Will also have a look at the AL crowd thread. AD

It took him a really long time to recover from his injury and get back to somewhere near his best. Very intelligent player - could do a Mooy and be a late bloomer at a higher level.
