    General 2024/5 A League Men's thread

This is a good read. The loss figures are horrendous for all clubs, but it does appear that Western United's doom is not yet certain. A dark tunnel, for sure, but some distant light...

    General 2024/5 A League Men's thread

It is looking bad for Western United. Odds on to be down to 12 clubs, I reckon - and its not looking good for the Bulls either. Frankly, we all know that neither club should have been given entry to the competition.

    Agree, MCG.

    Expansion Thread

Rocky times ahead for the A League. Legal action with major ramifications, if successful, with the Bulls; and the hardly surprising and very real possibility of the plug being pulled on Western United. They were poor decisions from the outset.

    A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 28

This literally one of the most absurd things I have ever seen. I felt so sorry for the guy who had to make the approach to Richard Roar. He looked like he wanted to crawl under a rock. You know what - Zadkovic is all over this. If he did not prompt this, then he needs to front up and state...

    A-league attendances 24/25

Something has gone very, very wrong with Victory. They have had the most extreme fall in attendances in the A League (numbers, not percentages I am talking here), and there is zero evidence that the club either understands the problem or is attempting to address the situation. For many years...

    A-league attendances 24/25

So so far from where they were a few years ago. Victory have fallen a long way.

Lion City Sailors Vs Sydney FC

This is not logical response. A logical response would look at Sydney FC under Talay. But I agree that the optics are deeply negative for the competition in terms of broader perception.

    A-league attendances 24/25

I think the standard varies hugely according to the clubs involved. There have been some very high standard games this season, with two on the weekend - Sydney/Auckland and Wanderers/WU. Brisbane, CCM and Perth, however, will never give you a game of quality in their present form.

    A-league attendances 24/25

A more apt comparison, as I have argued on these threads before, is to look at how A League players perform when they move OS. Better players, like McGree, end up in the Championship and secondary Euro leagues like Belgium or Switzerland, and the rest in the smaller clubs in the SPL and League...

Lion City Sailors Vs Sydney FC

BTW would be great to have Lion City in the A League

Lion City Sailors Vs Sydney FC

Two high quality goals. Still, not impossible next week. Has to be said, Talay has not convinced as the gaffer this season.

Should the a league continue with the salary cap?

We need something to breath life into the A League. Right now its like watching a train wreck in ultra slow motion.

Should the a league continue with the salary cap?

They can't expand unless investors front up with the cash. That clearly wasn't and now even more so won't be the case.

    Perry Park - Olympic Application

Let's hope so. It would save Brisbane Roar.

    A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 26

Aloisi has done a great job with WU. I was amazed he got another gig. Glad its worked out for him.

Should the a league continue with the salary cap?

I am increasingly and reluctantly of the view that the A League is a broken and unsustainable model. Please, just bring pro/rel in the equation and let's have some drama in the comp. Its stale as month old potato chip right now.

Should the a league continue with the salary cap?

Sobeit. The completion needs a good jolt anyway. Bring in sustainable NPL teams instead.

    ALM TV Ratings

My belief is that if every team had been in an appropriately sized stadium, like Hindmarsh, from the outset, then we would be in a very, very different position today. Empty stadiums build nothing but empty tv ratings.

    ALM TV Ratings

Until we have stadiums that have enough people in them to generate atmosphere for the TV cameras, there is no future for the A League other than what we have now, which is struggling for both relevance and survival. That was what Frank Lowy got utterly wrong - stadiums - and its crippled the...
