2nd/ACL spot still up for grabs for MC, WU, WSW and MV. Although MV is a bit of a long shot. They would need to win, and the others all lose as well as close the GD gap with MC. Only a 4 goal gap so it's in the realm of possibility.

A win or draw from SFC will put them into finals and knock AU out. However, MC will definitely be going for the win to secure that 2nd spot. Should be a great game.

A refresher of the tiebreakers for this season:

If two or more Clubs are level on points accumulated, the following 11 step criteria will be applied, in order, until all Clubs can be separated and ranked:

Highest goal difference โ€“ last season ranked second
Highest number of goals scored โ€“ last season ranked third
Total number of wins โ€“ last season ranked first
Highest number of points accumulated in Matches between the Clubs concerned;
Highest goal difference in Matches between the Clubs concerned;
Lowest number of Fair Play Points accumulated;
Away goals difference (being the number of goals scored by the Club in away Matches minus the number of goals scored against the Club in away Matches);
Away goals per away Match;
Home goals difference (being the number of goals scored by the Club in home Matches minus the number of goals scored against the Club in home Matches);
Home goals for per home Match; and
Toss of a coin (tie of two clubs) or drawing of lots (tie of three or more clubs).

If Sydney get a draw they sneak their way into the finals on goal difference. Melbourne have the Asian Champions League to play for so they won't be holding back despite the sheep shaggers already getting the trophy.

From a Victory POV, the worst result for us would be copping WSW away next week. I'm not saying we can't beat them, but we would clearly prefer to be playing at AAMI Park.

Is it a long shot? Yes. Impossible? No.

If WSW fail to win and Sydney beat City by a goal, beating Newcastle by 3 goals is definitely attainable at AAMI Park against a team with nothing to play for.

A refresher of the tiebreakers for this season:

Highest goal difference โ€“ last season ranked second
Highest number of goals scored โ€“ last season ranked third

But if WU snag a point against Auckland and we beat Newcastle, we can't overtake WU under these tiebreakers.

Out of the 3 Saturday games, the result that would suit us best would be WU losing to Auckland. That would guarantee us a final at AAMI Park on the proviso we beat Newcastle

Wellington v Perth has been postponed to Sunday 3pm AEST due to extreme weather.

Funny that the 4 bottom teams were all scheduled to play each other the first night of the last round.

Real embarrassment for Sydney- they had to take their hopeless keeper off after he let in 3 goals, then his replacement Redmayne let in another two!

I know nothing. I had SFC & MVC as my top two with MC bottom four at the beginning of the season.
Great game by MC & I have no idea where SFC are at.
