$200m over 5 years was the last deal which was a massive drop from Foxtel's original deal of $350 over 4 years (Before COVID). Viewing figures for the ALM have been better then last season but have also not rating at all some weeks but overall they where up around %11. However where does this lead into the next TV deal. The clubs have already been told that there will be a strick $3m salary cap next season and onwards hinting that the APL have already done the TV getting minimal improvements over previous deal. For the 20 years the A-League has been ran we have never gotten over the $3m salary cap due to one thing or another.
Do you have faith in the APL to deliver the goods that your ALM club needs?

I was chatting the other day how the a league's peak was partly trickle down from the prestige of the golden generation, once there was no one in top leagues coming from the a league you lost a few people. Other reasons people were lost of course the war on actives and apl decisions

I just found out my opa who doesn't follow the mens has recently been following every matildas game and loves the woman's game. In the end star power makes a difference, even if those stars no longer play in the league, the fact that they did once makes a difference

At the end of the day it’s all football and the more eyes on the game the greater the impact on the recognition of football as a major sport.

APL are trying to stop the clubs bleeding money. And there's easy money to be had via their academies and playing youth. So that makes sense.

To get mega numbers watching you probably need to get back to mega marquees. And they would have to be really worth it to get people attending and watching. Like, Messi worth it. Not your Nani type and all those failed so-called "marquees".

Plenty of past stars would've been huge, like we were very close to snagging Beckham back in the day I think. But who out there now would get tonnes of fans along that are actually within reach of the league? Who are the global names that would bypass the MLS and Saudi dollars to come here instead?

I think we need to target the Aussies abroad that aren't doing anything:

Duke
Delbridge
Degenek
Mabil
Hrustic
Smith
Etc

They could add more value playing here then abroad. Also target more players from Asian countries like being in a Turkestan player give him a go it's something different.

Yeah it's a tricky balance between cost and return. Would any of those guys bring people through the turnstiles for the contracts they'd be on?

i said that, no appeal whatsoever.
Lame sugar coating attempt, open the league up.

I presume that’s a guesstimate, however I don’t see how you are trying to link that with A League attendances.
NPL attendances will always be less than A-League attendances though, and even the attendances for A-League are less than those for Socceroos, Matildas and other codes of football.

thats one of the probs here and all round amongst fellow Football supporters.
The tit for tat - just as lame as sugar coating.
The only hope and to see is open the leagues up, there is nothing to lose trying for its getting nowhere as is.
Combined in time there is a likely start getting somewhere as 1 link to link - its pretty obvious there isn't any other remedy, sure not just keep stocking the APL fire and even IF it did crowd recover some that still isn't the answer for football as a whole, big deal having a small 1 pro league that caters for so few players what about the rest that is far larger needing inclusion/nuturing, looking to progress from Div to Div.
Seriously this whole game outlook here is small minded.

From what i seen yesterday, with Olympic v Marconi, it would be even less attended.
Sutho, no idea why the small crowd no diff to many AL ones as well that is far worse case scenario.
Point is not much gonna change either side of the fence and comparing semi pro to pro relative to fundings exposure etcetc is moot.
Chalk and cheese.
The game's best chance is linked from bottom up to expand and prosper.
This is the wholelistic approach that the game has lacked forever And I don't understand how people don't desire for this.

This thread is about A league attendances, you said to open the structure up, which I interpreted as meaning crowds would rise with anyone who earned the right to the top league would boost attendances. Now I have no horse in the race, but has Australian football not been here before, and it was a monumental failure ?

I only don’t want to be attending a semi pro league, with small crowds being the norm. It is depressing enough already with WUFC, MBFC, and MCFC and their pitiful attendances in woeful little so called stadiums .( MCFC, excepted with a decent ground )

Read again, that was not my point when I replied to LFC.
I’m not into cryptic forum posts but I’ll take a stab at it.
You are attempting to link upcoming Championship participants attendance figures during the state premier leagues seasons with the A League attendances…how am I doing so far?l
Further, you are trying to extrapolate that to ‘an if and when’ combining of the two.
I would suggest that there are too many unknowns to be trying to make a case out of it.
