Six of our last seven seasons haven't been good enough, it's certainly a pattern and we need to reverse it. Only the Mariners last season got it done. Yeah, we need both teams to finish off this campaign well.

currently ranked #11 in Asia however with the large 2016 points about to drop off next year and CCM unlikely to pick up very many points, where will it be ranked in 2025/26?

by my estimation it could be down near India's level just below Hong Kong league and lose a spot in the ACL 'elite'.

maybe some boffin experts can enlighten me if I've overlooked anything here?

That was the thread I was trying to find! It doesn't contain the word "coefficient” so it didn't show up haha!

Malaysia and Vietnam are the BIG worry. They are every chance to catch us, even this season! And we can say goodbye to ACLE.

The top 3 from a region get 4 spots over all the competitions.

But this time, Thailand were gifted an extra spot after another team pulled out, and UAE earned an extra spot for winning the previous ACL.

As it stands, Australia has lost it's only ACLE spot! Vietnam overtook us last night.

While we've secured an ACLE spot for next season, as things stand we'll start that next competition behind Vietnam, and Thailand will be above China!
This means if we don't outperform Vietnam next season, we'll definitely lose that ACLE spot to them. And Thailand would have three ACLE spots (2+1) with China imploding.

3 - Thailand - 45.5
4 - China PR - 44.4

To be fair, only Australia and China missed out on points due to COVID. So, perspective.

And we won the Asian Champions League. So there's that too.

Been downhill since then with some disastrous management. But the worst should be behind us.

We'll always struggle in the ACLE unless there's a healthy broadcast deal. And we won't move too far up the rankings with a salary cap.

But yeah, could be more to come. Indonesia and Philippines haven't turned up yet.

Due to constant COVID rescheduling, the A-League finals fixture was not set until this week

I get that we might not have been in lockdown at the time, but COVID caused the chaos in 2021. No one got points for 2020. Still, maybe a decision APL didn't need to make, it's not like the finals are a full league schedule dragging on for the entire ACL campaign.

This is my take.

It was a short-sighted position that with some manouevering, we could have gotten around.

We were warned, and we've paid by having just one team in the continental top flight.
