Yeah no interest in thiswhat a joke of a competition now.
Aren't your club South Melb against this idea though?ummmmm, I heard a juicy bit of info about the future of Aussie clubs in this ..... Could be 100% bullshit to be honest but the New Oceania Champions league is very bullish on including Australian clubs into their comp to give it prestige and obviosly commercial and broadcasting clout... FIFA (and again this is probbaly 100% bullshit) is open to the idea but only for Semi pro clubs outside the Aleague....
Could we see the Oceania Club of the century play Man U again??? hahahahahahah
Don't know what the clubs stand on it is ... but the lure of millions of dollars can persuade anyone I guess..... At the end of the day South, like all clubs, will look at playing any tournament for prestige they can, if we are permanently locked out of ACL because of ... well .... Frank Lowy, then competing back in Oceania would be an alternative I guess... if it gets us to a club world cup again Im all for it....Aren't your club South Melb against this idea though?
We're not in Oceania anymore that an Australian club is actually going to qualify.what a joke of a competition now.
At least Paul was against the idea. It was in that link you sent me.Don't know what the clubs stand on it is ... but the lure of millions of dollars can persuade anyone I guess..... We'll worry about that if he EVER runs for president of the club thenAt least Paul was against the idea. It was in that link you sent me.
I just enjoy not having to see a group of similar teams all the time in the UCL. The larger range of opponents by the draw is refreshing, not to mention a full table. The same teams in fairly similar groups from year to year made it go stale.I might be wrong but I don't think that this will take off. Too many clubs the fanboys and me have never heard of and it's a tournament that seems to be aimed at the fanboys.
The jury is definitely out on this one for me.
Mind I wasn't a big fan of the new Champions League format but it's certainly grown on me.
Thats what I am finding refreshing about UEFA comps this year too.... like you both I was a bit "hesitant" with the format but all for it now....I just enjoy not having to see a group of similar teams all the time in the UCL. I agree this world cup will be something of a tourist trail circus. European clubs will be using it for pre season and testing while other confederations may want to give it a go.
The issue I have with the Club World Cup is that it's every 4 years now. Don't think it's a good benchmark for the best club of a season. Harder to manage that in a sense, compared to national teams.Thats what I am finding refreshing about UEFA comps this year too.... like you both I was a bit "hesitant" with the format but all for it now....
