It's a safe space here so I think I can share a bit of personal matters.

Every family seems to deal with someone in your family who's a dick. You don't really want to see them but you do.

How do you handle them at family events?

is this person a Trump supporter or an anti-vaxxer? 🤔

Avoid and ignore them if you can. Take the high road. Don't let them drag you down to their level. But hold your boundaries.

What sort of stuff do they do?

being polite and some short small talk is all you need then move on.

This usually occurs during probate period. For example, wogs become very aggressive over the contents of nonna's freezer.

Oh no MCG..... Dude, are you really going to discuss your family matters with a bunch of reprobates on a soccer forum?

Keep it internal mate, blood is thicker than water.... especially the extremely ODD water that lurks around here...

Have you tried a Festivus Pole and the Airing of Grievances?

On a serious note, sorry if it's a legit thing. A lot of people can't be changed. If they're a narcissist, don't play their games. Just say 'ok'. For a difficult/ awkward type, open questions can show if they're keen on a conversation or engaging or not. Closed questions or making statements towards them makes it awkward to get a two way exchange. If they're abusive or something then I agree with others. Quick hello and ignore. You don't need to justify yourself to anyone who has crossed the line.

Thx mate it's probably awkward to discuss just felt a bit frustrated when I posted but appreciate the advice

Like I said, just be polite, make it short move on.
Man I have divides both side of the fam for many many years now.
Xmas is always a challenge but you got to deal with it the best you can.

Let's say you are a skinnyish guy and your big bully relo hunts you down like he always does, leans on you, says something belittling, then punches you.

First up it is all on him and how low is his self-esteem that he does it every time. Annoying and hurtful as it is nothing he says or does means anything to you in any real sense unless you let it.

Forum thread or real life are actually similar in that regard except it is harder to ignore someone in your face.

Good to see you too Steve then walk away if you can might work

Thing about friends and family is that they are not all saints. Sometimes it helps to tell yourself that you know they have failings but they are still your friend or relo.

If they were drowning you would still throw them a line.

Unless it was somewhere isolated and you looked to see if anyone else needed saving first .. ;)

I remember reading about a guy whose old relos used to come up to him at weddings and say you're next - until he started saying it back to them at funerals.

As someone else here said, if they cross a line that is different. For the rest, you are enough to be the better person for the short time and can see it is their poor need to do what they do and nothing about you.

If it is an old pervy relo checking out younger girls that bothers you there is always Tobasco on the rim of his glass or a discreet water pistol squirt to the crotch so it looks like he pissed himself.

Ah, the things we do on holidays for our online mates ..huge martyred sigh ..
