I know we have a match thread, but I didn't want discussion about one match to get lost in that.

Was at the game last night and I have a few thoughts.

1) It's clear the FA has no plan. We should not be with an interim coach for so long, especially one who has had the role twice before. It's not a sign of progress. We need to get a proper coach in now so we can build towards the Asia Cup in 2026. That there is no one out standing out to take this job is a bit concerning.

2) The tactics were so bad. Looked like we had 5 at the back, 2 defensive midfielders which is too many defensive players. We were so open when they attacked because the defensive line was felt and the front 5 were two narrow, almost square like. We should have adjusted that after their first goal. They didn't really create too many major chances, but they created enough, which is all top teams need. So many times we made break and then would cross the ball in, but it was pointless. We had 1 player in the box and they had 4. There was no attacking threat. It was as if the plan was to hope Caitlin got on it, hold up, try and turn and shoot. That's not a plan. We need to be better. The two times we got a decent ball in, came from Freier and there was no one to meet it. Also, why were our corners going towards the penalty kick spot. No one to attack that either.

3) Over reliance on the old guard. I get it. They've done so much for the game and are legends, but we can't just rely on them, even when they are not performing. Macca has always been susceptible for me. She's shown a few key basic errors, but she's always just played. Kennedy and Yallop are not bringing anything new to the team. The thing is that a lot of them still have something to offer, but not as the only option. Sharn Freier looked so good when she came on. Her skill level and technical ability is impressive. Get her playing more. Sometimes, even the likes of Raso and Foord just looked a bit too one dimensional. Got to change and mix it up, can't keep relying on name alone.

Agree with a lot of this. McKenzie cost us against England by not coming out off her line a couple of times. Not an area she is good at.

EVE has to go. Kennedy is not much chop either.

Raso's touch was particularly bad last night.

This Freier woman looks very handy. I want to see more of her.

Heatly looked nervous and got dispossessed a bit. (Hunt also.)

I think the step up from the A League to international football caught a few of them off guard.

A good hard fought game. Love Foord. She's a dead set hard nut. No quarter asked, none given. Raso comes out of the same mould.

Having the girls all in tears before the match started was not the best preparation.

Carpenter was a machine last night and Melbourne city have an 18 year old right back which is also good.

I haven't watched the game yet, but EVE has been a deadweight on this team for at least the last three seasons, maybe longer.

Regarding keepers, do we have anyone else coming through that is approaching the ability of Arnold? Not saying Arnold is great, she can be dodgy at times, but the little I have seen suggests that we don't have anyone pushing her at this stage. Having said that, I think Arnold is still a step up on Lydia Williams who she replaced.

Teegan Micah has been knocking on the door and had some good performances in the Green and Gold. She doesn't get enough of a long run in the spot to lay a claim to it or develop in the role. As soon as she has a bad game, she gets dropped.

We also have Jada Mathyssen-Whyman (25) and Chloe Lincoln (19). The thing with keepers is that it can be very hard to know who will work without giving them a decent enough run. This is where friendlies should be used to mix things up. Unfortunately, we just keep going back to Macca.

Watched the replay this morning. Some physical play by both sides and no love lost between these two teams.Ref did let a lot go though on occasions she didn't play the advantage.Lot of end to end play which makes for excitement for the fans and much of the play especially by the Matildas is unstructured so not predictable like the Socceroos.

Raso and Foord ran their hearts out and Foord's goal was very well taken. The Brazilians were quick on the counter and really stretched our defenders.Their technique on the ball was excellent. Some of their last ditch tackling and commitment was tremendous.

Carpenter does push hard down that right wing and has improved her decision making.Excellent crowd of 47,501.

Not too concerned that Lockyer did the presentation for Polkinghorne-they do things their way in Queensland.

Hopefully on Sunday Sermanni gives some of the younger players a start. That should be the point of friendlies that you rotate your squad and see how the younger players international experience.
