He chucked a tanty at Frank Farina for not being named in the starting-lineup for the Socceroos’ friendly vs the FIFA World XI, which apparently led to Fwankie dropping him from the squad altogether; he ended up never playing for 🇦🇺 again.

One story was that he refused to play in the same team as Okon, so that was a bit of a headache for everyone.
Ned was always a bit of a loose cannon (like his brother and sister)

seems Alex Robertsons reaction to not being selected in the asian cup has precedence...

I think every NT and team has their tool or 2.
A coach needs to manage that and not taking a personal outlook as well.
Overall he was a Top player that even today you don’t cut off good players when you need these types period.
That’s my pov.

what was done to cut him off out of curiosity

His ego
Like many players and many ex players to coach’s Ala farina.
Sure he got pissed Okon got the captains pick but maybe farina didn’t express that well also but prior to that.
zelic missed a couple of games for 1860 munich to play in the Au vs Brazil series.

Not only did brazil bring there u/23 team but farina only used zelic for the first game, just imagine if zelic got injured in this pissweak friendly? there goes his club career.

So zelic risked his club career to play for australia in a FRIENDLY, and they hardly even used him!

So one side had their pov and farina his.
2 wrongs don’t make a right as they say.

By the way I’m not defending him outright just that things got out of hand as it happens but annoyed we lost a very capable handy player of the times.

Decent but not earth shatteringly so....
though he done very well.....more than decent imo :)

Zelic spent most of the 1990s playing in Europe, most notably for Borussia Dortmund where he reached the UEFA Cup Final in his first season with the club, losing to Juventus of Italy and won the German Bundesliga title in 1995. He had a brief stint in the Premier League for QPR, moving for a club record £1.25 million,Ned_Zelic was beset by injury and discontent. After just 4 Premier League games for the West London club, he departed to Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.

After only a few months he signed for AJ Auxerre of France. At Auxerre, he replaced Laurent Blanc who moved to FC Barcelona, and participated in the UEFA Champions League. In July 1996, Zelic was selected to play for a World All Star team v Brazil at Giants Stadium, New York City. The All Star team was coached by Euro 92 winner with Denmark, Richard Moller Nielsen and consisted of such players as Jürgen Klinsmann, George Weah, Marcel Desailly, Lothar Matthäus, David Ginola and Fernando Redondo. In 1998, Zelic decided to move back to Germany and went on to make 102 appearances for 1860 Munich in the Bundesliga.

Won a Bundas title
UEFA Cup Final though they lost.
JLeague Cup

Not many of our Roos have played alot of UEFA games let alone finals.

Played a major part in that Dormund Bundas title, play all of 4 games.

But yeah he was a decent player, always remember his goal against Holland to qualify for Olympics.

yes nothing like landing at a club and get a medal easily :)
Like HK getting a medal at Istanbul.

Yer pulled off some good midfield range ones, thats what I like from these type of players.
