(probable) retirement announcement of Simon hill

I don't think his heart was in it for a long time. He knows we didn't reach out potential so can't blame him

Like rats jumping of a sinking ship, Hills doing the same with the ALM.

He will be calling the Socceroos WCQ games against Japan and Saudi in June. Then heading back to the UK.
I wish him the best. Not easy being involved in football in Aus, so totally get his decision to leave.

Glad to see him mix it up in the UK where he'll honestly wipe the floor with the majority of shit commentary over there. No one is as diligent in doing their pre match homework.

When the pitch invasion happened I saw him tell someone to get fucked on Twitter and I just feel like he was a huge advocate for football but I feel like his given up after everything that's happened and his commentary just feels checked in
would be curious to know what caused that. I suspect the deflating of the a league and its failure to nurture top level talent. Without better talent production the A league was bound to deflate over time

Pretty self inflicted failure too....pre a league most academies went down to u6 rather than u13s like some today. Also teams didn't just have b teams in state leagues like they did today, but a 26 round national youth league as well, they often had two teams playing in the youth team. Players could then progress from academy, to their 2nd best nyl team, to their best nyl, to the b team at state level to the first team. I know it was a different time and there are a lot of factors behind why we don't produce players with the same level of club success, but it is implausible all that investment in youth didn't at least do something

a ruined man

look at him, he doesn't even cut his hair anymore.... that's what covering the A-league for so long has done to him

Pep gave him the call - phone home son we need you !
Obviously like JJ he’s maybe had enough and if you got a good offer back to your roots why not good luck to him.
If it’s job dis satisfaction for let’s face it his kind of gig is like a player it’s passion.
Well maybe over the years it’s been squashed due to sheer boredom, I get it from his perspective if so and should be a huge beacon to many here what’s wrong.
When have we heard of a friggin commentator jump from his cherry job.
Thanks Simon but damn you’ve left us with bloody Harper being apl’s custers last stand what cringe.

What's up with SM Mike and Pete's take on Hill? Calling him all sorts of derogatory things.

He’s been amazing for the game here, it will be a big loss and as Grazor mentioned without the sbs world game it has left a big vacuum for the lack of talent per say within the media.

And with an ever small football media landscape maybe it’s caused for Hill to say he’s had enough and what’s to go back to the UK where football is treated with the ultimate respect unlike here plus to be with he’s family too.

I wish him all the best, he has left an amazing mark for our game and will be missed.

I remember him saying a couple years ago of the lines of if he can’t find a job within the football media that he might leave, I wonder if the fact that the global game which was on SEN in Melbourne which has been axed had something to do with it as well?

Regardless it’s a blow for the game here and it will be hard to replace the calibre of he’s commentary.
