Sam is nearly 10 months down the road from her ACL injury but there hasn't been any news as to when she will be ready to pull on the boots again....

The only news coming out of the UK is that it's taking a little longer than Sam and her medical team would have liked.

Will Sam, arguably the best Australian football player ever come back from her second ACL injury and be the same world class footballer she's been for the last decade?

Although the injuries were 12-13 years apart she is now 30 and as the song goes....'time waits for no man...'

not just looking at TG zimbos but yer good point we've always discussed re TG.
With the influx of growth the last 10+yrs of the W game here you'd think we would have unearthed another couple of young next level strikers looking ahead but doesn't seem so unless I'm really not on the pulse.
As mentioned Heyman in 09 was Golden Boot with 11 and 15yrs later '24 scored 17 ! 36yrs young lol....
Keane is 31yrs previous winner and you can go back the previous few GB winners late 20's to 30.

So where are the up comers having had SK as the idol the last 11/12yrs.
We suffering already like the mens not developing NT level strikers just wondering ?

I think there is an element of the lower women's tiers having a much greater drop in athleticism and skill compared to the men's tiers. I can't back it up with anything other than my own feeling though. I have never been to a tier 2 game - I just look at the drop between the good aleagues women's players and the squaddies/learners and imagine a further drop in lower tiers being equally significant.

With 12 aleagues women's teams, there is not much room for new/young strikers to play against higher level opposition and learn the levels of craft and skill that only come from quality opposition.

Heyman is athletic, pretty fast, tall and keen to score goals. Against lesser opposition she can shine all season. Put her up against a solid defensive group with some pace and she finds it harder to get that space. She deserves her spot in the Matildas - don't get me wrong - she just has to work much smarter at the international level to get her chances (like any player in any age group). In short, Heyman is a quality striker without being a world beater 1v1.

Happy to hear contrary views on any of this.

Strikers are very very hard to find, maybe Kerr was just an outlier, like Dukes, even in the PL, they are hard to find.

could be robbos could be but putting aside Dukes as the best on his feet we have produced some fair back ups now and then that I think you don't rate but have done something for us at NT levels.
Archie
Mori
Aloisi to name a few.....
Our other NT scorers are mixed of wingers/mids.

You'd think more than Heyman that I rate has joined the Tilly party attack by now.
I know your at grass roots girls if I recall right ????
Surely your seeing some talent - skill/athelitism showing glimpes/promise like Kerr ?

RIMB, I was at a 8 to 12yrs girls Sydney International Cup held at Narrabeen recently. robbos may know of it.
A coach I know very well had a squad of very talented 12yr girls that I sponsered happily and watching each day I was damn impressed.
Most Rep players, watching 2 girls in the middle dictate the games, control/vision/distribute, then some goals scored were great finished off attacks.
Hence why I'm wondering why we're not seeing more newbies to Tilly call up.
The backs were sound as and read play very well.
As we know the growth has been immense so I expect a factory hahaha I guess.

Great to hear about the youth coming through. They need a bigger showroom window to demonstrate what they have.

We haven't seen the newbies up till now because the lazy option was to keep the oldies around as long as they felt they were contributing.

There just has not been anywhere near the possible exposure of new talent - just a trickle now and then.

I hope the young ones coming through now will have a place to show and develop from where they are now up to the Matildas. Only so many spaces available in the national teams. Do our national scouts see these up and coming youngsters or are our younger national women's teams equally blinkered in their squad selections? Is there money, support and genuine commitment for the scouts to get around enough and have the people they find given chances?

If the desire now is to build for the future we can hope so.

Sam Kerr might be back playing soon

“There is speculation the star could return in December 16 following the international break for the game against Leicester or January 20 against West Ham.”

The recent National Youth Championship tournament would have shown the upcoming talent we have and I have seen a few handy players in the various state NPLWs.
There is definitely insufficient money for development so it will be a very slow build.

Question: why is there all this discussion about Kerr but nobody says anything about the other Matilda's that won in the champions league this week?

I think there are a couple of other Matildas threads, maybe they can be rolled into one thread.

That way discussion can be shared on all womens football matters.

Because Sam Kerr is more than just one of the Matilda's....

She's a global sporting icon. Probably Australia's most famous women sports star, certainly Australia's most famous international football player.

Her standing in the global football hierarchy is unprecedented for an Australian.

by far Australia's most famous football player ever and probably the only current Australian player the average football fan both here and abroad could name
