The Australian Championship Thread

Gonskis., not long after this "launch" as Rugari so gleefuly reported:

Geez, are these people walking or getting pushed?

I hate the lack of updates and communication. You would think a steady stream of news would help pump and market the competition!

Unsure if this has already been posted but an interview with the Sydney Olympic president on sbs Greek radio, a good listen. A few interesting tidbits in there
That was a really open and honest interview. So he has set up a new entity to compete in the Championship, and this is to protect the club. Seems like a good way of doing it and minimising risk. Are other clubs doing this? As he's the sole owner, does that make it like a franchise?

This is a very grk football reality.. a pro club which is seperate from the club foundation body (non or semi pro) and above that the overarching wallet of a millionaire who supports and controls it all like a puppet master... Grk football reality has proven this is a very fickle arrangement and one prone to many many issues... worsk well when the president is a die hard supporter (and succesfully able to pump money into a club) not so well when he isnt or no longer can!

Didn't work for Makris, Why does this dude think he will be different?

"ESPN also sent questions to Football Australia regarding policies and procedures involved in board governance and conflicts of interest, the status of its request for proposal process for new second-tier competition, The Championship, and broadcast plans for when the competition launches in October. The organisation declined to respond."

More secretive than the CIA this mob!

Not a sign that breeds any confidence whatsoever for us!

Approaching mid July, fair to say we can rule out a home and away nsd in 2026?

Whilst its too far down the road to can it this year, i dont see this end of season version lasting beyond this year, clubs dont want to be playing until Christmas.
Feels pissweak if FA are letting the clock tick down so everyone gets let down slowly. No one has the balls to let the people know what's going on. Another year wasted.

Having said that, if they come out next week and say the third RFP phase is complete and we'll have a 16 team national league next season, I'll be the first to pop the cork.

I’m not sure why the perfect always has to be the enemy of the good, even if it’s semi pro, even if it’s just nsw and Victoria initially, and we essentially get a merger of the strongest/most willing clubs in npl nsw and npl vic..It can grow from there. Thats still better than what we have now, and thats basically what the top tier of the sport was in this country for quite a while. Let’s not forget even the nrl is basically just a nsw and qld comp with one Melbourne team. But that’s just me, I accept others will have a different view

Or eat humble pie, perhaps.🤣

Ive been grappling with the idea of a backup plan should it go pear shaped...
IN TRUTH I have less than little faith in the FA as its stands, even if ultimately its down to us to engage and to prove the project a success..

Like others here before me, the idea of a combined Super Southern NPL is something that could be a good option to continue some momentum for the clubs and as a pressure tactic on the FA.
My suggestions are open to alteration based on clubs ability to participate but as an initial idea from interest for championship then follwoijg would be most logical.

7 teams NSW (Marconi, Olympic, Utd 58, Wollongong, Spirit, Apia, Rockdale)

5 teams Vic (South, Preston, Avondale, Bergers, Knights)

After initial trial then expansion on regular basis to include SA 2 teams!
For 14 teams.

26 rounds home and away building on local and interstate rivalries of traditional clubs.
