The Football Australia Thread

Football Australia has appointed consulting firm Egon Zehnder to find their next CEO.
Question for the forum. Do we need a global search, or should it always be a local?
I always thought we should go with a local appointment but I have to say Im with BA81 now .... its time to get a broom in and at least a fresh perspective.... Local choices would be aligned with one "group" or another.... time to do whats best for ALL.

good thread idea and even better the question ?

First of all - JJ announced May 9 of his resignation.
July 16 FA announce a global search for the new leader - makes you wonder what discussions been going on and would you think they couldn't come in agreement with a local in the first place ? OR no one put their hand up ?

Makes you wonder what/who from abroad would take on this outpost gig ? money ? well will they offer enough ?
As Isaac quotes in the presser :
"Egon Zehnder to identify candidates who not only bring outstanding executive capability but also share our passion for football"
MCG quotes, another new "suit" (lord help us) saying executive capability, no doubt needed but lacking any nouse or understanding of our games core and values as quoted earlier in the presser :
"to deliver on our enduring principles and strategic objectives for the game at every level, from grassroots to elite."
LOL.........
Its a real catch22 situation, I feel someone similar to JJ's background in the game from a Euro or even latin america perspective would be refreshing - what we need as long as the remaning board open eyes and not block things that are against their own agendas let alone "control".......
There's our prob I reckon.

We need a shot in the arm to carry on with what JJ had started - more so NPL/grass roots to support improving the "core" of participants, ie grounds/facilities etc........Roos/Tildas are pretty much set and covered atm get someone who sees the need to leverage part of the game that is waiting to be lifted out of the doldrums.
Point is will the current locals with their vested interests hold a decent CEO back no matter from where ????
Agree a broom - so many barriers/walls, APL they will play their bit for themselves naturally.

As much as I'd back a credible proven Import is there any of the GG who are business savvy as a thought ?
Maybe someone from here, would cost less and do a better job hahaha

Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing when posting the question. Local definitely has it's advantages (on paper), but biases are unavoidable and problematic.
At the end of the day, the CEO is beholden to the board, so maybe it doesn't matter as much as we'd like it to. For example, if the board doesn't want a proper 2nd div, then it's the job of the CEO to follow that direction.

Deep down we all know how this will play out. When JJ was appointed, he put out the "XI Principles" document, which replaced the previous "Whole of football plan".
First task for the New CEO = New "vision for aussie football" document.

At least the "effnik" surname can placate us old soccer people? hahahahahaah

One thing is for sure, if the new CEO achieves half of what JJ did then football will keep on the upward trajectory that it has over the last five years.

Did JJ achieve much though? He definitely set out to achieve a bunch of positive things, but many haven't really eventuated. 2nd Div seems to have stalled. Domestic Transfer system was promised and appears to have been shelved. Not saying JJ was bad, he was probably the best we've had, but that bar is pretty low.
