The UK regulator OFCOM yesterday announced a set of regulations which will come into effect on 17th March 2025

Forums are now shutting down because of it.

"The Online Safety Act only cares that this site is "linked to the UK" (by me being involved as a UK native and resident, by you being a UK based user), and that users can talk to other users... that's it, that's the scope."

"On Sunday 16th March 2025 (the last day prior to the Act taking effect) I will delete the virtual servers hosting LFGSS and other communities, and effectively immediately end the approximately 300 small communities that I run, and the few large communities such as LFGSS."

It comes down to two different ways of approaching this (generalisation, of course).

Left Wing: Shut down any opposing ideas, labelling them as misinformation. Who gets to decide what is "misinformation"? The ones in power decide that.

Right Wing: Freedom of debate, so that reasons can be given, for and against. The aim is that the true/correct information prevails through debate based on facts and evidence. This presumably works better when a population is educated, and where the culture is grounded in an ethics of righteousness and fairness - rather than seething partisanship where the people can't care a stuff what is right and wrong, but only care that side wins.

By nature, we human beings -- in our worst nature -- tend towards censorship. I'll explain why. Look at the people you hang around with ... when you challenge their beliefs, what percentage of them:
  • they respond by asking you: why do you believe that?

  • they respond by getting their feelings hurt - hate being told they are wrong

You see, when you see your spouse, your family members and your friends .... people HATE being told they are wrong. VERY VERY few people, when told they are wrong, will cooly and logically ask for your reasons. This is base human nature, to hate being told they're wrong.

Therefore, when base-human beings become politicians with power -- and they reject the principles that came from past centuries that were founded on Biblical principles -- we get a society where our LAWS ACT LIKE PEOPLE DO IN REAL LIFE. We shut down any opposing ideas, and hate it when people's feelings are hurt.

Our society is hurtling away from the heritage that we received under English Common Law from centuries ago.

We are heading towards a new Dark Age.

Remember, when Putin came to power in Russia, progressively over a few decades, he changed all the laws such that Russia's fledgling democracy, over time, now is more a totalitarian state, and a democracy with elections in name only.

Australian law is becoming like its people.

UK law is becoming like its people.

Social media forums, such as this, are a snapshot of how Australian people think and behave like in 2024, compared to 50 years ago. And the young people don't realise this, because their actions are similar to all their friends, so they think it is normal.

Hence, we must not blame the awful laws that UK politicians are bringing in -- because those laws are made by UK legislators who are like the UK people. The laws reflect what the average people are becoming like. Those people voted in the politicians who have those ideologies.

People get the leaders they deserve.

An example of this is where John Pesutto, the Victorian Opposition Leader, branded Moira Deeming as being a Nazi. Why? Not because Moira Deeming is a Nazi. But because he used gutter-tactics to slander her to destroy her.

What John Pesutto did is no different to what the Media does in Australia.

John Pesutto is a reflection of the type of character we, as Australians, have become.

I would argue that John Pesutto's behaviour is the norm in Australia --- the proof is the way people slander Trump as being a Nazi. Where is the proof? And when contrary evidence is given to average Australians, they rant and insult, rather than testing the evidence.

Labour Government ~ Tory Government?

Labor Government ~ LNP Government?

2 sides of the same WEF coin.

In my younger years, maybe not so.

But now, with each disappointment at every Liberal-Nationals government, I can't fault your comment.

So you, in your unnecessarily preachy long winded fashion., are saying that western society is creating laws based on the preferred governance selected by the majority of the people ... Democracy is a real bummer isn't it?

Australian law is becoming like its people.

UK law is becoming like its people.

This must absolutely horrify anyone that wants "the people" to do what "the smart ones" want eh?

I find this creepy as fuck to be honest. I can't agree with any chilling of speech at all.
