I thought Robbo was angry he wasnāt picked for the Asian cupdid anything similar happen with gg players where they didn't want to play for us?
In robbo's case apparently he wants to not play for anyone (although maybe he's just saying that) and wants to avoid getting injured and focus on his club career. In volpato's case he thinks he can play for italy and could be good enough to get 3 90 minute subs locking him in![]()
that's a remarkable reason to completely drop the roosI thought Robbo was angry he wasnāt picked for the Asian cup
Got to be an injury for Mabil as he had been featuring regularly up until recently.yeah that's annoying. Was tearing up midgity land a year ago
I thought he got injured just before the Asian cup squad was going to be selectedI thought Robbo was angry he wasnāt picked for the Asian cup
Viera, Sumunic, Seric were all GG era players.did anything similar happen with gg players where they didn't want to play for us?

Vieri was never going to play for us sadly. Although I did read an article where after he moved back to Italy in his early teens he would setup cricket games in the school yard and taught his mates how to play, which always makes me laugh.Viera, Sumunic, Seric were all GG era players.

My take on the Volpato and Robertson case is that it is less about wanting to play for another nation and more thinking about their career progression. Their clubs and agents don't want them taking on the travel for our qualifying campaign. Maybe they will come around when they have established themselves, or maybe they will take an opportunity to represent their euro nation if it presents.
Thats an interesting point....We don't have a good track record. Anyone who is thrusted in the NT has had it affect their career. Before Souttar's injury he was EPL bound and would probably have close to 100 EPL appearances by now if he didn't do his ACL. Circati is another who now may never play Serie A again if Parma don't stay up. Thats just in the last two years.. there's a bunch im missing too.
When you at a big club and you go off for World CUp quals there quality to cover you, at smaller clubs like Boro losing Mcgree for a few weeks is detrimental to their season and they already have no respect for the Socceroos.
How do Japan and south Korea avoid a similar effect on their career? We don't have a good track record. Anyone who is thrusted in the NT has had it affect their career. London to Seoul of Tokyo is a 14-15 hour flight, non-stop. London to Syd/Mel is 22-24 hours or more at best, with a stop in the middle. And going to a different season (northern v southern hemisphere), if that creates some issues as well, Iām not sure. How do Japan and south Korea avoid a similar effect on their career?
I think fans should be more appreciative of players that do risk their career to play for us, they tend to get abused even if we win ugly. I guess Metcalf's had his 1st season derailed as well, hope he gets it back on track
reckon it takes me 3 weeks to get back to 100% even though most of the jetlag is out of your system in 4 days or soIāve flown between the UK and East Asia on work trips, and can tell you it significantly affects sleep and athletic performance for a week afterwards. Travelling to Australia must be even worse.
I would have assumed that the time zone difference matters more than the time of flight, but I could be wrongLondon to Seoul of Tokyo is a 14-15 hour flight, non-stop. Is that extra 50% or more flight time going to Australia cf East Asia significant?
I guess the other issue is that many Japanese and South Koreans in Europe are playing at a higher level and are more established first team players who are important for their clubs. And they donāt have the potential (in general) for dual nationalities like many Aussies do.
Do you go business though?reckon it takes me 3 weeks to get back to 100% even though most of the jetlag is out of your system in 4 days or so
welcome to the forum!
I don't and imagine it makes a big difference since you can sleep. But surely the change of timezone makes a huge difference?Do you go business though?
Socceroos always do and it's a thousand times better than economy.
