Muz Muz Muz,
I'll chime in purely to add discussion from my pov.
I have no care of the politics on the EV or where its coming from.....
I just look at it from my own daily life and needs on use needs......
One where i am in the northern Syd burbs, 1200 sqm.
I'm practical outdoor type and have spilt level lawns, large gardens/hedges to deal with And heaps of tree surroundings.
I tried the bunnings battery tool route, in time I learnt Ryobi product is utterly lightweight for my needs.
All the stuff they sell is cheap and works for small gardens and ground floor apratment living.
That kind of product from blowers/hedge trimmers etc just don't cut it, had plenty of battery back ups.
Got sick and tired changing batteries, plus trimming couldn't cut hedges well enough, anything 10/15mm OD your going over and over.
I learnt don't buy cheap bunnings crap - I have bought EGO product, got to say the batteries are way way better near on commercial use.
Mind you any of my good ol petrol product leaves them all to dead at this stage but the EGO stuff is the best I've experienced and will perserve due to the ease and quietness.
Next buying back up batteries re Ryobi etc, Bunnnings want $300+ for a twin pack - stuff that !
Worth more than the blower or trimmer you buy !
Thought to outsmart that went online to buy from a so called Aussie company 2 x $120 made sense.
Charged em up, plug them in, no action, tried this tried that, re checked model #'s - all correct, did more digging they are just anotehr chinese copy that I got dudded.
These are the type of product people ATM have experienced fires for their scooters.
You say don't leave them over charge overnight, well thats where it needs to be for peoples way of life.
I can leave trickle charges on a couple cars 24/7 - hence reluctance from general consumers and I don't blame them.
Next cars, well I'm no early adpator, I'll wait till the infrastructure is far far more readily out there with the type of use we do with cars.
They are great for inner burbs regular use no doubt.
We have 8 cars in our home fleet, how many cables do you expect me to have, when 2/3 of us get home needing charging and going out again in the next 30mins to an hour.
On the way to my office I stop at a servo to fill, they have 2 EV charging bays, I asked the counter bloke, they pay $50 for half an hour.
Obviously couldn't charge at home in these case's.
Fuck that I haven't that time when in need.
My travels driving up to Qld alot, regular stop at Port Mac or Coffs, I watch EV's waiting to chrage up, I've filled, got a coffee snack to eat and drive off, again fuck that.
Wife's car is a new CX-30 Mazda, 6l/100 - cheap as to run seriously why would I bloody bother at this stage for eg.
I am a car luver, the sound and all, as said till the majority rules then I will jump but gonna be a while by the look of it.
My neighbour 1 door up has 2 BYD's, the first wife SUV suffered huge scrape from front to rear.
I asked why haven't you got it repaired yet, still waiting on the chinese parts, took 4mths +.
I checked up with other panel beaters I know of having got one of our cars repaired, every EV brand is suffering parts supply for sometime.
One of my sons i30 needed repairs, Insurance sent us to their preferred beater, low and behold they also were a approved Tesla one as well.
OMG I couldn't believe how many we're in for repairs, heaps of them.
The wait is huge because being all alloy panels and not enough qualified repairers.
Heaps of the hits are either front or rear, I asked why being they got so much tech/sensors etc, people are relying too much on the tech.
Like mobiles people don't remember numbers anymore etc people think the car will do everything that as we know thats playing with fire pardon the pun.
The big thing overall is "change" - you know people just don't jump in, this is normal life to most.
One day it will be sorted and charging a plenty available and faster, one day.
We are not alone in the "resistance"
