The Electric Scooter Thread

Moral of the story, all media sometimes tell big fat porkies.

Not sure why you'd go to the trouble of singling one out over the other.

This is false equivalence. Whether or not the media all tells lies is immaterial in relation to this matter.

Whether you're pro-EV or anti-EV has nothing to do with this. The NRMA said something, Sky news misrepresented them.

This could have been a story about hats for all it matters.

Media watch just pointed out what Sky news did.

Ignoring the lies that were perpetuated by Sky and resorting to whataboutism is the same as shooting the messenger. The ABC aren't the bad guys in this instance, it's SKY.

And it's fair to ask what's in it for Sky?

your not going to get the answers anyway Muz,
SKY do their misguided pov and the ABC have done just as much throw in the others.
There is no win because they all have their agendas.
I just don't bother with most media for some time, they are all kunts.

I'm not having a crack at you because I hear this a lot. I'm genuinely interested.

If all of the media (mainstream in general which is what most 'do your own research' mobs say) is fucked and can't be trusted. Like newspapers, TV, radio and other sources like scientific agencies, medical doctors, the judiciary etc, then where are you getting your information from?

Because youtube, Facebook, Twitter, rumble and Instagram aren't exactly packed with credible journalism.

Serious question.

its a fair question and probably not that easy to answer in brief but my general outlook.
I have watched/heard many types of people from home and abroad from all walks of life having done OS business travels for over 35yrs, typing from Riyadh, you know one of your fav petro places lol.......your best info is from everyday life out there.
I see hear read travel, thats my barometer I suppose.
Trust is not what it used to be, its gone, people are frustrated/angry/impatient, in part why ?, woeful and dirty political agendas/backroom alliances that deep inside they dgaf how many everyday people they put through suffering.
Lies lies through their teeth, this has effected everyday life, look at political threads for eg.
No diff to question time slinging mud, no one listens anymore.

Only thing I have to say on scooters is some of the cunts need a smack in the teeth.

When does an electric bike become a motorbike? Some of the new ones you see have those big fat tires on them and at full pelt they'd bloody hurt if they clobbered you.

People fang them down the streets and on footpaths.

They banned them in CBD here because of the injuries. Not sure if they reversed it.

we're too nanny sorry - hope they reversed it but talking Melb cbd doubt it.
Look I get the dangerous use aspect, therefore impose good large "fines" on users in error no diff to cars - put the pocket fear factor on users, signs up warning of use and price to pay.
We're becoming a joke - I used them like mad in far busier Milan, Rome.
Great means of CBD transport.

We used to fang on pushbikes on footpaths, in the CBD whats the diff, you can collect a pedestrian just as bad.
People need to be aware - instead of having their heads buried in their mobiles.
More and more regulation - one day can't do jack shit, everyone walk around like robots.

Agree we are a nanny state but some of the weight and size of the e-bikes are on par with riding a motorbike almost on footpaths. Needs to be speed/weight restrictions or just ride them on the road in bike lanes.

Makes sense in Europe cause they have bike lanes everywhere and don't lose their shit at someone riding a bike.

Loathe them. The number of negligent and illegal stuff on them around Germany and other European cities frustrates me. You walk where you're supposed only to risk a broken leg or smashed brain by 2 dickheads flying past on one. I have no sympathy for the reckless who crash and hurt themselves. I see them in my neighbourhood just standing their being left behind, right in a narrow walkway. Kick them out of frustration.

My favourite in Germany is the cyclist on a footpath on the opposite side of the road. We have bike paths but cyclists don't follow them. My personal favourite is the cyclist doing some kind of hook turn where they'll have red straight ahead so just sharp turn left to use the green crossing light and then risk it through and intersection as to not pause their ride.

UK rules about e-bike engine size is clear. Cops go after car drivers all the time but resources and enforcement on this stuff is low. German police do have a blitz where they'll stand on a mall and stop cyclists. They go white in the face knowing their guilt. It's all safe and easy until people get hit, a regular occurrence here, where your personal liability insurance will cover any damages.

and thats the way I see it, like who cares users prob, no diff to us on push bikes, billy carts, skate boards - I understand IF they injure a innocent party thats terrible if serious but in the end what are we going to do looking ahead, ban everything on public streets pathways and we're all controlled humans.
This world is going get very very regulated and controlled.
Better ruling should be applied I agree in care and left in suitable places.
I have used companies scooters, infact it was CBD Perth not long ago.
You can't park the bike anywhere but their dedicated spots otherwise it doesn't log you out, that was smart imo.
They all should have this.

I just dislike how these things got rolled out and dumped all over cities with half added rules and ended up clipping pedestrians where least expected.

I think Paris and Gelsenkirchen have banned them.
