My SBS picture would really clear up whenever I leant forward about 25 degrees, no more, no less. But put an arm out for the remote and it goes out of whack again. The key was to secure the remote before the viewing commenced. And this only worked when sitting in THE chair, not the other chairs.
And people complain about paramount!

Was the nsl ever on sbs?

Weren't those the fuckin days

You would sit in front of SBS and lift your leg and the snowstorm would sway left and you'd get this light sabre "womm! shhhh. wooommm! shhh" noise going

When I was a kid, you'd get a 50 minute edited match replay at something like 9pm on Sunday night? Well, it was late at evening/night for sure, but can't remember exact time.
Only nsl I ever watched was the strikers 2 minutes highlights on cairns news. Had no idea how to access it

there does seem to be some generational change despite things being at a low ebb right now

I remember when I stayed at my uncles house as a uni student if he caught me watching football he would yell at me to get that ^&*% off. Can't imagine someone 40 or younger being like that
Wow..... I cant imagine anything like that.... Hard to comprehend a childhood without football as #1 ...

Cliche of cliches but we really DID have a coathanger sticking out the back of the TV at one stage :)

Oh god no.

Funny you say that for generations you'd describe us as a footy family household but my son has been watching football.

and there in lies a huge piece to the many false dawns, skip media and the nrl/alf - how many anglo/skip people in the country influenced by the negative media towards our game, they kept the cancer flowing and to this day.

Our governance also has been our own worst enemy, the mention of Arthur George in another thread brought back my young memories.
Yes amigo r t s - David feckin Hill another !
Hurts to say WC Germany quali but like every important time we never ever ever capitilise on the occasion.
Again this goes back to Governance, no matter the times.
I've said we are weak - the FA even right now steps on its tippy toes no matter the direction.

SBS, yer whatever the difficult times viewing least it got up and running and got behind the game in time - again another thing that ran out of puff.

When SBS finally came to Perth the first time I switched to the channel was sometime on a weekend and I was watching something like Melbourne Croatia v Sydney Croatia. Can't remember if it was live or not. It was quite enlightening because until this point in time I didn't even know there was an NSL.

BTW always had good reception. :)

And kids these days complain about streams not being 4k .... pfffft STFU at least its "In colour" hahahahaha

The hill I'll needlessly die on, is that if AFL clubs saw soccer transfers out as a way to generate income, there could actually be a great win-win we could all reach.
They'd have to be run by modern-minded people of a younger vintage than the ones in charge right now, first. And the mere fact that Collingwood scrapped their netball team despite protests, doesn't fill me w/confidence in that regard.

When I was in year 8 when my history teacher caught a kid yawning in class he used to stop the lesson and say " oh look another one who stayed up all night watching the pornos on SBS"
TBF a lot of those movies succeeded in getting the 🍆 harder than the avg. 🌽⭐ flick nowadays..💡

This was mine too. I thought finally with decent competition we'd prove ourselves. We won the Asian Cup had a club win the ACL and the ACL2 and nothing. All three were huge moments and the MSM didn't give a shit.

I wonder if we hosted a WC if that would be a false dawn too. It seems we do something and never follow up.
If we hosted a World Cup, the AFL would receive $2b in government funding.

SBS and the NSL tried so many random things - none of them worked. Remember one year they only showed the second half of games live so people would rock up.
