This is why I take no notice of ex-players. They haven't a clue.
 
Irrespective of what ex-players say and what was seen as acceptable contact back in the day, the reality is that the current laws of the game deem this sort of challenge to be unacceptable. Whether you agree with it or not, this is what IFAB have decreed, so the referee is just doing his job.

Even earlier than that, Orlando Engelaar (Melbourne Hearts) got a red against MVC for the same thing. And I don't recall MVC fans saying that it was harsh.
Also, if a former player makes sense they are on the coaching benches not on commentary duties.

One action was where a winger played into Waddo's feet. His first touch took it away from his marker. He shot with his left foot with the second touch, forcing a difficult save from the keeper. It was also an example of fast handling speed - little time taken between the first and second touch.

Looking at all the young players on the pitch, I never found it boring, watching as a neutral and viewed a significant portion of the match.

17 yo Herrington continues to impress as Roar CB.

Waddo probably lacked service though, Grazor.

Archie is a bigger unit too, with a bit of strength and physical presence.

That was a really good headed goal that Archie G scored too.

I think the commentator said he has scored 4 goals from his last 3 games? He is only 18, 19 or 20 years old too.

AU seem to have a good combination of experienced players, plus some good young players.

They are well-coached too.

Although they lost 2-3 to WSW after being 2 up.

I thought Nix defended deep in the first half. I watched all of it.

Jets had quite a lot of chances they failed to convert. Jets also appeared to have a lot of ball and territory in the first 45 mins.

Yeah he's strong & quick - as he showed with his goal against the Mariners. He just turned 20 in November. 5 goals from 9 games this season.

Waddingham has to feed off scraps to score his goals - the shot you described was brilliantly taken by him. If he played for one of the big A League clubs he'd win the golden boot

Towards the end of the game, Dylan Scicluna got injured near the Adelaide bench with Wanderers up by 1 goal.. Stajcic (already on a yellow) got concerned and words were exchanged during this incident where he either got a second yellow or a straight red.
In the Post-game press conference, Stajcic claimed that the Adelaide bench were calling Scicluna a cheat for time wasting
It is being reported in WSW circles that Dylan has a season-ending knee injury, possibly the dreaded ACL.
There should be apologies forthcoming from Veart, Mauk and co.
What a pity for Dylan as he was having a breakout season

Hard to Kersey is biased as he is a Queenslander. However, he is a poor referee at this level. He completly missed the Germain studs contact with Beadling (in his crotch area). Beadling retaliated with a tackle from behind and awarded Beadling a red card.

Kersey is just a s**te referee at this level
