FA producing the games AND paying for flights and accommodation ..... they REALLY want this to go well.

"The Australia Cup final and semifinals will be on Channel 10 and the Round of 32 and 16 of the Australia Cup and the second tier will be in market to go to another broadcaster," said Johnson. "What we've done for all of those competitions, though, is we will be producing the matches, so we've taken on that responsibility."

In other words ... like Ive been sayin for ages... NO conenction to Aleague

"The focus has been on getting the second tier up and running and moving it from a conversation to something tangible. We have deliberately connected it to the NPL and that's the first step
. In terms of how that connection works with the [A-League], that's something we don't want to be prescriptive about at the moment. Simply because we want the second tier to work. We don't want that complication -- because that's a complicated discussion. We want to get the second tier up and running. We want it to be successful. We want it to connect with the NPLs but also with the community. We want to focus on what is in our control now, what we can do, and what we can do to make this exciting competition that we all want."
Praise the Lord !

What about the Quarter Finals??

Technically MV don't need to win the comp. If SM, Preston and Avondale are 1st, 2nd and 3rd, then MV could qualify finishing 4th. It's obviously unlikely, but technically possible. In NSW, an A-League team could qualify by finishing 5th. Again, unlikely, but possible.
Youth Academy sides are excluded from this competition.

So here's what we know about the groups:

two foundation sides joined by two NPL qualifiers in each group. Top-seeded foundation clubs South Melbourne, APIA, Marconi, and Avondale will be in separate groups and there will also be a rough geographic split -- the South Australian and West Australian premiers will be in the same group, for example

So the top spots are set for those four clubs already. And SA is locked with WA. They won't want to double up Vic clubs in the same group. It could look something like this:

Not many other options. APIA and Marconi could be flipped in their top spots (A<>B), so to South and Avondale, and NNSW 1st and TAS 1st swapped too. But the rest is pretty much locked in already.

Give group C Olympic or Wolves (would have preferred APIA or Marconi) for the NSW spot please and thank you.

who determines the top seeded foundation clubs? lol

is this based off where they finish in the NPL season?

So JJ IS listening to me then :)

"We talk about Japan being the benchmark in the region. And if you look at the process that Japan has gone through in terms of its evolution; in the 90s they were a one-tier football system with approximately 16 clubs. Today, they have three tiers, and they have about 56 professional clubs. So they have continued to evolve. And that's exactly what we are trying to do, and that's the purpose of why we've set up the second tier."
We are ONLY 30 years behind.😭

Just use the NPL Championship as a way to expand the a-league division model up to 20 teams. (Two leagues of 10 in the aleague divisions)

And then use the NPL Championship and A-League division 2 as a way to get pro-rel involved between the a-league and NPL system.

….”because that’s a complicated discussion “…. thanks to FFA ( ie: Lowy and Gallop).😏

OR, do the same at the Championship level, with a NPL level beneath that and 8 x STATE NPL levels beneath that with 20 teams each - gives us 200 professional clubs plus whatever the Aleague standalone is by then) ... pretty decent 20 year plan.

Mate Ive said it a million times, If I was this American bloke for example and stumped up 25 million for a shopfront in the ANZ sport entertainment game, I wouldnt allow it to be devalued either....
