Sign Up Now!Nothing to applaud here. The fact that the FA has not appointed anyone is showing their incompetence at gettig this done. It shows they had no succession plan for Gustavsson and that they have no idea what they are doing. That’s the belief of Matildas great Joey Peters, who has applauded FA for holding off on naming a new coach until the right person is found for the job.

The fact that they confirmed Sermani will stay on till we play South Korea is shocking. We have a home major tournament soon, and the coach we have will have almost no time to prepare properly. If we crash out, you can just imagine the uproar. It's a lose lose situation for whoever comes in.
As for the World Cup, we definitely did overachieve. It was clear Gustavsson got very lucky and was out of his depth, but at the time, there was no need to upset anyone.

Matildas players are growing increasingly frustrated with the time it’s taking Football Australia to appoint a permanent coach for the national women’s team – but that shouldn’t be an excuse for the side’s poor form.

I look at the whole tournament and we were never really comfortable in all our games. If expectation was to make quarters, we made it very difficult to get there, which is why I would say we overachieved. How bad USA or Germany were is besides the point. You don't focus on what other teams are doing. If we overachieved, it's by what, 1 game? At home surely quarter finals was considered the bare minimum for a pass. In a tournament where powerhouses like the USA and Germany were probably at the worst they've been for decades, it wasn't that farfetched we should make the semi. We did get lucky relying on other results to win the group in the end and we could have faced England much earlier.
Women's football has moved forward rapidly since the World Cup though, we do seem to be getting left behind. The current coaching situation clearly isn't helping.
In Asia though it's still a pretty terrible standard outside of Japan, playing at home, that really should be our only competetive match for the tournament, so we really need to be winning it. I don't see us changing much until that tournament, after that though, we need a massive rebuild.

We've just come off a really bad tournament where we lost every game. We were poor in our friendlies against Brazil. We struggled against Zambia at the Olympics. Of our last ten, we've only 1 one significant game. I think taking the Asian teams for granted is a perfect recipe for failure. For anyone to be looking at our last year and a bit and to think we will have no issues, its a bit delusional.

Happens in alot of teams. Some players stay too long and it's affect the form and morale of the whole team because those players are 'undroppable'. Seen in happen often enough. Need a new broom and not having a permanent coach who isn't going to rock the boat before he leaves because it will soon be someone elses problem is also a thing.having a aging core never helps for the future and its a shame it has come to this.

I don't know ever since that Stajic thing the team has been rudderless and performing way below their potential.
