Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Honestly, i dont know...Im in the hope we are moving quietly and effectively... but what i see is, that unlike other clubs, which have become more aggresaive in their engagement with all aspects (which seems to be bearing fruits), we continue to think we are above all that bc we are SMFC, and it will all just fall in place come Championship...

What can i say, im a little dumbfounded, and still annoyed that nothing, (post the last 2 matches) has come out of the footballing department resembling anything of value or reassurance.

*head to head promotion, presence, organisation (along with our current footballing style) have all been shown up in the last 2 weeks! If thats not a wake up call, i dont know what is!

We have some good players but its been coached out of them. Seeing experienced players like Jankovic and Mells just kicking it anywhere all panicked is a symptom of our tactics. Prestons ability to switch the point of attack, have wingers actually run at our defenders with the full backs making overlapping runs is completely foreign to us.

We continue to play like Sawyer is there, his ability to drag 2 players away from the play and create space for others is gone.

We've established that our championship window is over, and we likely arent playing finals. Is this not the point you move on from Esteban?

We obviously arent getting an Anastasiadis or Tolios in right now. Perhaps give it to Nick Marinos until seasons end, his young port side played good stuff last year.
Maybe Ange will get the boot at Spurs before the Championship kick off> lol

Last night showed that most clubs have improved and strengthened their squads. We have either remained stagnant or gone backwards.

The only way we will score is either through a set piece or a throw in. That’s it.

Preston played well and they were the better team in the first half but we valiantly tried to hold on and stay in the contest.

Goalkeeper brain fade turned everything around. But to be honest, it was a matter of not if, but when Preston would open the scoring. It just happened through a goalkeeper blunder. As for his antics when he was walking off the park - the less said the better.

Preston put on a great event. They had portable toilets for the South fans and security along the perimeter. There was a spot for the South fans to buy food and drinks. We were well behaved and good to see they held back the Preston fans for 10 minutes to let us out and depart the surrounding area quickly.

There will be excuses on injuries and the goalkeeping error, but the way we have been playing lately, it is very concerning.

What a stupid decision of resting 7 players on Monday it was. We got outplayed against Preston. Monday’s match was a good chance to get 3 points. We now have 1 from a maximum of 9 points from last 3 games.

The question is this - what do we do over the next week to put on a competitive effort against Dandy Thunder away?
Im sad to say I agree with you both ... We have been well and trully found out... One trick route to goal has been well and truly found out.. IK am not so concerend about the "talent" although full backs this year??? Sheesh... but we DO have the ability to play through the park, we tried it twice (I guess because Archibald got jack of Esteban's "instructions") and it led to two shots on goal.... we just need a more adventurous manager... will we get one ... who knows but Estebans isn't the bloke to lead us to the promised land..... as much as I hopped he would be.

I am glad the Thunder match on Saturday will be played in 30 degree plus temperatures.

An easy choice to go the beach and watch the game on the ipad there
C'mon, you can go to both .... Im not in any position to tell anyone what to do with their weekends but the club is hurting, the players are doing their best (Mikkolla put in a shift for the ages) the lads needs us behind them now more than ever .... Ill be there...

Haha you know what, I think you have a point. I remember thinking he was a discount Billy Konstantinidis at first! Then again I don't know how 'patient' the board will be, so time will tell...
Which is why weve been somewhat flexible on him to date... lol
The lad had a good first half, kept a near post certain goal out by standing tall and covering his angle well... he just made one silly mistake - I suspect the occasion got the better of him .... I hope he shakes it off and recovers....
No doubt, i just think that it was a blunder that your career cant come back from easily, he will now either just clear the ball first time each time it comes to nowhere, or panic with that moment in mind haunting himm... A shame perhaps but football 101 dictates you dont dribble in the small box, especially if your a keeper in a big game ffs!!!

"small box" hahahahah tell me you are Greek without needing to tell me...... lol

I made a decision before the season started I would be attending fewer away games this year. Too much pain over the last 10 years.

Bentleigh bossing us
Sacking Taylor, and it's humiliating consequences in relation to that scum club in Oakleigh
Nearly getting relegated
Dross style under Quintas
Getting drubbed in 3 consecutive Grand Finals
NSD continually being postponed (will it EVER materialise?!)
Getting disrespected by the Lakeside Trust
Rubbish food at Lakeside
I could go on and on

Having said all that .... I would still have gone to the beach because of the forecast. I have done it before in previous seasons, when I was not so morose.

Its soooo hard loving this stupid bloody club sometimes isn it? hahahahahahahaahah

Ive been grappling the last week, with who we bring in, hypothetically always, to clean up this playing mess ....

So far, what we know is this:
1. Taylor wouldnt return, and especially after long term contract was signed with the pretenders.
2. JA wont leave bergers mid season (unless its Aleague) bc its contracted.

M. Valkanis is currently without a team and comes with a depth of experience. He knows the club etc qnd has shown some promise (not so much as first team coach though!)

Nick Marinos did a great job at Port and O.S. but not sure of he can donthe job we need.

Paul Pezos could work, if city let him go, as he has knowledge of NSL, NPL and top tier (albeit assisting!) To date...

Who have i realistically missed? And dont say Ange! 🤣

Nick tolios would be a good choice

Do we have one last crack at JA at the end of the season? Now that the Championship has officially been announced could that tempt him? I have a feeling he’ll want to see out the rebuild at Bergers but surely if he has higher coaching ambitions he’ll at least consider it.

Tolios would be an excellent appointment, his players love him (majority of his players followed him when Bentleigh got rid of him to Dandy City. What a disgrace that was) he gives young players a chance and plays an exciting style.

Nick Marinos did an outstanding job last season at Port considering what was happening behind the scenes. He probably dosen’t have the experience yet for a job like South but a great young coach and maybe an option if we need to make a change in the next few weeks.

They’d be my 3 choices
